Position Summary

Job Description:
The adjunct instructor will teach a daytime section of Exploring Biology for the Fall 2024 semester. Exploring Biology is a general education laboratory course with an emphasis on building scientific literacy skills for the non-major student. The instructor will be responsible for facilitating both lecture and laboratory instruction, grading, and assessment. and for communicating grades and assessment results to the faculty member coordinating the course.

Outcome:
At least 1 adjunct will be hired to cover the daytime section of lecture and lab for BIO204.

Essential Functions

Attends and engages in meetings for BIO204 led by the coordinators of the course.

Keeps the course coordinators informed of all student issues and concerns.

Serves as a professional role model for other faculty, staff, and students in the laboratory and classroom setting.

Evaluates weekly assignments in a timely manner. Provides feedback to student on level of performance based on course objectives.

Collects assessment of student work in the course and reports the assessment data to the coordinators of the course.

Adheres to applicable regulatory rules and standards including lab safety.

Experience and Education Required

A bachelor's degree in biology, or a related field is required (Master's degree is preferred)
Preference will be given to applicants with previous teaching experience

The candidate should demonstrate excellent communication skills and have a strong commitment to working as part of a collaborative team. The candidate must also be able to apply supervisory skills, motivate students, be personable and professional, have patience with and understanding of students, and be able to learn and apply new concepts and ideas.
