About the Department:

The Cox Career Management Center offers vast, dedicated resources for students and employers. Students can engage with career coaches as soon as their program and courses begin. From personal branding and coaching to internship or job searches, the CMC's mission is to help students achieve their professional goals. About the Position:

The Career Coach will meet with Cox students and alumni to to drive career readiness through coaching, advising and training for effective job search activities (on and off-campus), including interviews, site visits, networking events, job fairs, and information sessions.

The position will administer and interpret career-related assessment tools, as well as teach career decision-making methods and application of principles for securing highly-competitive (and compensating) business jobs and internships.

The position will also provide career development subject matter expertise in fields such as finance, consulting, marketing, real estate, accounting, etc. and plan/implement targeted career development events/other duties as assigned by Director.

The person in this role will collaborate and serve as a resource to industry/functional area staff in the career center and collaborate as needed with the department director and other designated staff to identify and cultivate relationships with local, regional, and national organizations.

Essential Functions:

  • Career Coaching (individual): Manage coaching of primarily BBA and MS students (2300+ total) in career planning, personal branding, job search, school-to-work transition, and career transition & management. Administer & interpret career assessments for students/alumni; Document coaching sessions in department coaching system including notes, outcomes and follow-up assignments.

  • External Relations/Employer Outreach: Performs outreach functions with groups such as students, faculty, staff, alumni and employer recruiters to effectively engage in career-related activities; Participates in industry/function-specific events (conferences, workshops, etc.) for professional development & department visibility.

  • Career Coaching/Training (group/workshops):Plan and manage career-related presentations upon request. Lead group coaching sessions for targeted populations in specific career management phases or skills; Design, develop, and execute specific career development seminars/workshops including classroom presentations.
  • Event Planning: Plan and execute industry/function-specific events to connect employers/alumni with students; Collaborate with other department staff to ensure event goals/objectives and logistical requirements are delivered and met; Assess effectiveness of each program or event in a timely manner. Track attendance and outcomes for each event and responsibly for reporting.
  • Reporting/Website Content: Prepare required reports (such as placement), program and student learning outcomes and assessment plans, and other required data/information as directed and in a timely manner.
  • Support BBA&MS Admissions: represent the CMC in admissions activities such as information sessions and conduct yield-focused conversations with high-potential prospective applicants. Develop career-related marketing content for website / publications.
  • Position requires some evenings for career-related events
  • Position requires some travel to conferences and workshops


Qualifications

Education and Experience:

A Bachelor's degree is required, preferably a Business degree. Master's preferred.

A minimum of three years of professional work experience in a business-related (e.g. marketing, accounting finance, real estate, consulting, HR/human capital, operations) or career-coaching function is required. Experience with interviewing or hiring candidates, coaching or in recruiting is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Candidate must demonstrate strong interpersonal, coaching and verbal communication skills with the ability to build and manage relationships with a wide range of constituencies and students with diverse cultural backgrounds. Must also demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in writing. A strong customer service orientation is essential.

Candidate must possess a strong business acumen to discuss business terminology from a hiring perspective.

Candidate must possess strong organizational, planning, and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks with a strong focus on attention to detail. Must also have strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify, analyze problems and devise solutions.

Candidate must be a self-starter with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment. Must have a strong working knowledge of MS Office (e.g. Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook), internet and email communication systems. A working knowledge of social media tools is preferred.

Knowledge or experience with case or technical interviews preferred. Insights into undergrad or early experience hiring and interview processes across multiple business functions desired. An understanding of diverse cultural backgrounds desired.
