SUMMARY:

The Associate Director for Contract Management will work within the Procurement Contracts Management Team which is responsible for the creation, management and administration of Procurement contracts to deliver risk management for our business stakeholders. This position requires a strong foundation in contracts law and transactional law and the ability to provide insight into the interpretation of commercial contracts. This Team Member will support Tyson's Procurement Sourcing team members in developing contracting strategy as well as the negotiation of contracts.

The Team Member will collaborate across Procurement to complete broad contracting tasks and will service as contact point for collaboration with Corporate Legal, partner with Operations to drive awareness, and support Procurement with timely responses and guidance on legal issues, with the partnership of corporate legal counsel, as needed.

The Associate Director will play a vital role in the creation and maintenance of a Clause Library housing commercial terms related to buy-side contracts, will aid in the development of advanced training opportunities for stakeholders, and will help develop and implement best practices related to Contract Lifecycle Management via the use of our CLM application, Coupa Contracts.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPPONSIBILITIES:

  • Applies strategic and critical thinking skills to all aspects of contract management to advise on the administration of and strategy related to contracts and the contractual relationship with suppliers.
  • Responsible for redlining master agreements and other contracts. Conducts risk mitigation activities related to contracting including but not limited to version control and policy compliance.
  • Responsible for development of template language related to commercial terms, such as KPIs, SLAs for the creation of a clause library, as well as development of drafting notes for negotiations.
  • Attend and facilitate negotiations between Tyson's Strategic Sourcing managers and suppliers. Such facilitation will include the offering guidance to internal stakeholders prior to negotiation sessions to gain alignment and to provide direction, focus and support during negotiations.
  • Aids Director in communicating contract team's purpose and vision to organization, including senior management, obtains buy-in from relevant stakeholders.
  • Acts as an ambassador of Tyson Procurement to customers, stakeholders, and external parties.
  • Assists in the development, implementation, and adoption of best practices related to Contracts Life Cycle Management via the use of Coupa Contracts.
  • Develops and conducts legal and contract management training for Procurement and other stakeholders.
  • Assists in the development of procedures and processes that govern the contract management.
  • Assists in the direction and prioritization of work through senior managers, managers, and procurement specialists. Provides guidance to other Contracts Management Team Members on legal concepts and contract risk mitigation. Reports to Director of Procurement Contracts Management.
  • Possesses deep knowledge of contract and transactional law and awareness of contract lifecycle.
  • Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree. Juris Doctor Degree (JD) required. Active law license preferred.
  • Experience: 5+ years' experience in Law, Procurement, Supply Chain, or Contract Administration.
  • Computer Skills: Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite required, particularly of redlining and drafting capabilities within Word, Experience in Contract Lifecycle Management tools desirable.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required; presentation and negotiation skills are required.
  • Special Skills: Strategic and critical thinker with exceptional interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with the team and all levels and areas of the organization. Understanding of business and contract law as applied to supplier relationships. Working knowledge of contracting concepts and commercial law. Strong negotiation skills and demonstrated conflict resolution skills. Ability to identify, assess and mitigate risk. Understanding of procurement governance, processes and policies. Strong analytical and interpretive skills to recognize, comprehend and assess data, complex issues, and industry information. Ability to present complex topics in an effective and concise manner to broad-based audiences including various levels of management. Excellent customer service, problem solving and decision-making skills. Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks and assignments simultaneously.
  • Supervisory: Ability to lead as an individual contributor with growth opportunity for people leadership.
  • Travel: Up to four [4] domestic trips per year.
