About the Department of Pathology:

Comprised of extraordinary faculty and staff, our mission is to improve the ability to diagnose, treat and understand the origin and manifestation of human disease, and to care for those who have or are at risk to develop disease. We accomplish this through our clinical services (in all fields of anatomic and clinical pathology, including molecular and genomic pathology, histocompatibility testing and transfusion medicine) and research (which includes basic, translational and clinical research into the origins and manifestations of disease, including efforts to improve disease prediction and prevention as part of the goal of achieving precision medicine and health), and also by educating future leaders in pathology and related fields. The Sean N. Parker Center for Allergy and Asthma Research at Stanford University is the first of its kind, dedicated to advancing treatments and discovering underlying immune mechanisms to develop lasting cures for allergies and asthma in both children and adults. Our interdisciplinary team of leading scientists, physician-scientists, and specialists from fields such as immunology, gastroenterology, otolaryngology, chemistry, bioengineering, pathology, pulmonology, and genetics collaborates on cutting-edge research aimed at understanding immune dysfunctions that lead to allergic reactions.

As a global leader in allergy research, our Center works collaboratively with researchers worldwide, sharing data through an interlinked network of satellite centers to conduct innovative clinical trials. Our research efforts extend beyond allergies and asthma to encompass a range of immune-related disorders, including eczema, food allergies, eosinophilic conditions, drug allergies, and gastrointestinal diseases.

About the Position:The Biostatistician 2 with some independence, the incumbent will consult with investigators to refine research questions, define hypotheses, design studies and devise analysis plans. Work with senior statistician(s) to implement analysis plan and publish findings. Present results orally to clinical investigators. Provide guidance to clinical investigators on design and analysis issues. The Sean N. Parker Center for Allergy and Asthma Research is the first center of its kind, aiming to not only to find better treatments for children and adults with allergies and asthma, but to discover underlying immune mechanisms against the diseases and develop a lasting cure.     Design study.Develop and implement protocol for quality control.Help develop funding applications and research protocolsContribute to proposal and budget development Perform sample size/power calculationsAuthor statistical analysis plansCreate analytic files with detailed documentation.Select appropriate statistical tools for addressing a given research question.Implement data analysis through statistical programming.Present results for investigators using graphs and tables.Summarize findings orally and in written form.Participate in the preparation of papers for publication.Consult with investigators on appropriate statistical approaches to data analyses; assist in study design and proposal development.Mentor collaborators in areas of experimental design, quality control, and statistical analysisDevelop oral and written dissemination of findings for conference presentations and peer-reviewed journal articles.Oversee lower-level staff on issues related to quality control and creation of analysis files.Comply with all institute policies and SOPs as well as regulatory requirements for the programming, analysis and reporting of research projects (e.g. FDA, EMEA, TGA etc)

Desired Qualifications:

    Strong background in machine learning, biostatistics and bioinformaticsExperience with analysis of sequencing dataManipulation and analyses of complex high-dimensional dataDemonstrated ability to implement machine learning models in scalable format for broad applicabilityStrong communication and presentation skillsExperience performing biostatistical analyses, including categorical, longitudinal and survival data; SAS, STATA, and/or R programming; technical/scientific writing for medical publications to describe results and statistical methods required.
Education & Experience (Required):
    Master's degree in biostatistics, statistics or related field and at least 3 years of experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Required):
    Proficient in at least two of R, SAS, SPSS, or STATA.Skills in descriptive analysis, modeling of data, and graphic interfaces.Outstanding ability to communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.Demonstrated excellence in at least one area of expertise, which may include coordinating studies; statistical methodology such as missing data, survival analysis, statistical genetics, or informatics; statistical computing; database design (e.g., expertise in RedCAP or MySQL); graphical techniques (e.g., expertise in Illustrator).
Physical Requirements*:
    Frequently perform desk-based computer tasks, seated work and use light/ fine grasping.Occasionally stand, walk, and write by hand, lift, carry, push pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.

The expected pay range for this position is $112,292 to $132,108 per annum.
