JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Cancer Registry- Oversees the cancer registry program and coordinates internal and external Cancer Committee activities. In partnership with the manager will develop goals and QA processes. Serve as key facilitator for quality cancer data for colleagues, managers, clinicians and program leaders. Ensure accurate case finding and abstraction of all reportable cases. Provide high quality data for statistical reports as requested by leadership for business line development and patient outcome. Serve as technical lead for ERS, registry software and other data management systems used for comprehensive cancer data management. Maintain and update Cancer Registry SOP manual. Ensure confidentiality and HIPAA compliance with use of cancer data. Ensure cancer statistical reporting is managed according to national accreditation (NCDB) and state (OCISS) reporting laws.
  • Data Management- Apply advanced skills and knowledge of cancer registry to abstract and enter complex cancer cases within local and ACOS guidelines. Maintain long-term follow up information for patient cases for required period of time. Perform complex data searches for research and service line initiatives. Contribute to a minimum of two patient care studies each year with comparisons to national or international data to evaluate treatment and survival outcome. Regularly attend patient review meetings, tumor boards, and oncology grand rounds to gather and/or report information. Report cancer cases as required by state and national law. Lead the real-time abstraction of additional data parameters in miscellaneous oncology databases to supplement the cancer registry database, working closely with CBDI Application Specialists for enhancements and troubleshooting. Produce slides, reports, and other materials for presentation to local, state, national and international clinical, research, or professional groups. Review reports from the Division of Pathology monthly to ensure compliance with ACOS/CAP standards. Maintain and annually update the Cancer Registry manual, as assigned. Accurately review admissions, deaths, new cancer patients and other volume indicators to report to CBDI Leadership as requested.
  • Program Support- In partnership with the manager lead the development of hospital processes to maintain an accredited cancer program by the American College of Surgeons/COC through a physician survey every three years. Develop compliance plans with revisions to the ACOS/COC standards as released. Communicate progress to the Cancer Committee. Support all aspects of the Cancer Committee with the committee chair and is a member of the committee. Responsible for publication of the Cancer Committee annual report, distributing to CCHMC Leadership. Establish and maintain professional liaison with other hospitals, physicians and staff.
  • Resource- Serve as internal resource for colleagues, provide guidance, training, mentorship and supervision for other registry staff.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 5+ years of work experience in a related job discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR)
