Job Description:

The Salve Regina University Counseling Education and Expressive Arts Department seeks applications for a new full-time, non-tenure track counselor education faculty member. The ideal person for this position would be a professor of practice, teaching clinical rehabilitation counseling and professional mental health classes online and in-person with a disability justice focus. Salve Regina offers a 60-credit Counseling Program with two counseling tracks: an in-person Clinical Mental Health Counseling track with a focus on holism and an online Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling track.

The program's current faculty believes in education incorporating holistic perspectives and systemic understanding, including justice, equity, and multiculturalism within counselor education best practices. In addition to counseling standards, our curriculum incorporates the Mercy Sister's Critical concerns: anti-racism, the earth, non-violence, women's issues, and immigration. We strive to ensure that all faculty engage effectively with important philosophies/discourses that support equity-based perspectives. We have strong collegial relationships and thrive in a collaborative environment. We appreciate and respect each other within and outside academia and look forward to welcoming someone to our team.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintaining a full-time course load (4 courses/4 courses) during the 9-month academic contract year, with opportunities for summer teaching if desired. This faculty member will ideally teach in the Rehabilitation Counseling specialization, clinical coursework, and CACREP core courses based on the department's needs and the applicant's expertise.
  • Constructing and maintaining course content through the university learning management system (LMS)
  • Engaging in service both at the University level and in the counseling/counselor education professions
  • Advising and mentoring (primarily) clinical rehabilitation counseling students
  • Participating in continual professional development and the counselor education profession
  • Attending regular university, department, and program meetings to ensure a collaborative and cohesive work environment
  • Collaborate with the Program Counseling Director, Evaluation Coordinator, and the Clinical Coordinator
  • Perform other professional duties as requested by the Graduate Program Director

Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Earned doctorate (by start date) in Counselor Education from a CACREP-accredited program
  • A teaching perspective that is grounded in rehabilitation and mental health counseling
  • Andragogy that integrates the University's Five Critical Concerns as they relate to mental health counseling (immigration, anti-racism, women and gender, non-violence, and the earth), equity, multiculturalism, holism, or systemic injustice
  • An ability to teach both online and in-person
  • The candidate selected for this position must be able to meet eligibility requirements in the U.S. at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue to work legally for the proposed term of employment

Preferred:

  • A Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) or eligible to become certified
  • Experience working as a Rehabilitation Counselor
  • Evidence of counseling, supervision, and teaching experience in Counselor Education
  • Interest in clinical course(s) coordination responsibilities
  • Be a licensed mental health counselor or license eligible in Rhode Island or have the ability to transfer the license to Rhode Island within a year
