The School of Nursing at Boise State University invites applications for a Clinical Assistant Professor position. The primary responsibility of the clinical faculty involves teaching students in both academic and clinical settings, supervising clinical experiences, and engaging in professionally related community service. While they may, they are not required to participate in research or scholarship activities as part of their regular assignment. The successful candidate will have a background in nurse education and competence in a specific clinical practice area. The preferred area of focus or experience for this position is Medical-Surgical Nursing. Candidates should also be technologically competent and able to use technology to deliver effective education.

The ideal start date for this position is January 2025. This position is location-specific to the Boise State University campus and requires in-person, pre-license BS program teaching. Clinical faculty generally teach 12 hours of didactic and clinical/lab/simulation courses, or 80% of the allotted workload per semester, with the remaining time devoted toward service. For this position, the ideal candidate will work mainly with students in the learning lab, simulation lab, and out in the clinical setting. There may be opportunities for a didactic workload assignment in the future.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BS): A challenging program emphasizing leadership skills, professional values, and core nursing competencies. The program includes clinical rotations at schools, hospitals, healthcare clinics, and district health departments. The program is five semesters long, with summers off.

RN-BS Completion Track: An online program that offers a holistic learning experience with support from faculty and advisors. The program is designed to help registered nurses continue their education while balancing personal and employment commitments.

BS-DNP Doctor of Nursing Practice: An online program for Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (nurse anesthetists, nurse practitioners, and nurse midwives). The program focuses on quality improvement and translating theory into practice.

Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP): A program offered through the BS-DNP Doctor of Nursing Practice.

Adult Gerontology Nurse Practitioner (AGNP): A program offered through the BS-DNP Doctor of Nursing Practice.

Minimum qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in Nursing or enrolled in a graduate nursing degree program
  • Licensure as a Registered Nurse in Idaho or Nursing compact states by starting date of employment.
  • Competence in a specific clinical practice area(s).
  • Technologically competent; able to use technology to deliver effective education.
Preferred qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in Nursing Education
  • Online or hybrid teaching experience.
  • Experience teaching with simulation.
  • Experience creating experiential learning activities in the skills lab.
  • Ability to coordinate on-campus experiential learning courses.
  • Undergraduate and/or Graduate level teaching experience.
  • Nursing experiences within the areas of Medical-Surgical Nursing.
  • Clinical certifications demonstrating competency in a nursing specialty

Salary and Benefits:

Salary commensurate with experience.

Our standard faculty contract is a 9-month contract (unless otherwise noted) with pay and benefits spread over 12 months. This is a yearly, renewable contract, unless noted that the position is temporary. More information about faculty contract and work days is available here.
