The Opportunity:

Mass General Brigham's Digital Research Operations is immediately seeking a candidate for the position of Cloud Specialist. Our goal is to support the computational and analytics requirements of our user community of over 15000 academic researchers and clinicians at Mass General Brigham's Academic Medical Centers. The role is challenging and varied, requiring technical, interpersonal and problem-solving abilities. The successful candidate will report to the Senior Cloud Manager and work closely with the cloud security and governance teams at Mass General Brigham, which are responsible for developing enterprise-wide configuration guidance, enterprise toolset offerings, and implementation support to address immediate risk areas.

The selected candidate will be the Technical Lead for all Google Cloud Platform requests at Mass General Brigham. The candidate will be a member of the Mass General Brigham Cloud working group, which also includes Azure and AWS Cloud Platforms. The Cloud Specialist will work directly with the Researchers to gather business requirements and architect a solution. Working with the Information Security and Privacy teams, the Cloud Specialist ensures systems and procedures adhere to organizational security standards, values, and HIPAA guidelines.

The position requires an eagerness to learn and deploy new technologies, versatility and breadth in technical skills, demonstrated ability to work independently, effective communication with team and management, outstanding customer service skills, and the ability to help teams and projects successfully accomplish their research objectives. Candidates are not expected to be deeply knowledgeable in all areas but must demonstrate the ability and desire to learn how to support a large and diverse research environment. The Digital Research Operations Team enables and supports the highly successful and innovative research programs of the largest teaching hospitals in the nation--Massachusetts General (MGH), Brigham and Women's (BWH), McLean and Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospitals--with their more than 3200 grant-sponsored programs in the biomedical sciences, from basic to clinical and applied research

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

• Serve as Technical Lead for all Google Cloud Platform (GCP) requests at Mass General Brigham; participate as member of the Mass General Brigham Cloud Center of Excellence. Leverage Terraform for Cloud agnostic implementations.

• Assist Researchers with risk assessment requirements for Cloud Security and attend Cloud Security Committee meetings.

• Participation with evaluations of new projects and consultations from the research community, including gather and document new project requirements, communicate the security restraints/expectations for using GCP, and other Cloud offerings at Mass General Brigham including authentication constraints, data usage constraints, and public hosting constraints

• Leverage industry standard system monitoring and reporting tools to ensure the maintainability, scalability and availability of the infrastructure environment.

Working Conditions:
• Standard office environment; currently hybrid.

• Possible local travel to Mass General Brigham sites

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; talk; or hear; use hands to finger; handle; or feel; reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; and stoop; kneel; or crouch. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 5 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and depth perception.

• The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Normal office working conditions. The noise level in the work environment is quiet to moderate.

Qualifications
Qualifications

• BA/BS degree required in a technical field or equivalent practical experience building/shipping technical products

• 3+ years, or equivalent, of experience migrating on-prem solutions to Cloud Infrastructure and developing/launching products/technologies within Cloud Infrastructure

• 3+ years of experience, or equivalent, with the GCP Security Ecosystem including network security and federal/government compliance standards such as HIPAA and FIPS compliance for GCP API's

• 3+ years of experience gathering business requirements and working with cross-functional teams

• 3+ years of experience working with Kubernetes and docker hosting solutions

• Strong technical skills understanding various projects within Google Cloud Platform

• Experience with on-prem & cloud hybrid storage solutions and designing/developing effective automation surrounding these solutions is strongly desired

• Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills

Skills/Abilities/Competencies:

Required

• Expertise with Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, Python, CICD, and DevSecOps

• Ability to multitask and prioritize work requirements, keeping team and management informed via meetings and thorough effective documentation

• Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with cross functional teams including staff at all levels of the organization including both technical and non-technical, medical and non-medical personnel

• Ability to successfully negotiate and collaborate with others of different skill sets, backgrounds and levels within and external to the organization
