Job Summary:

The Coordinator II, Special Programs, TRIO Success Coach, will serve as a coach and guide TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) participants through their undergraduate career. They will develop resources to assist participants in their academic success, and to document these actions. TRIO SSS participants are students from under-represented backgrounds: 1) first-generation college students, 2) low-socioeconomic status (SES) students, 3) students with a disability.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide individual advising and coaching to students to address academic, personal, career, and financial areas/concerns.
  • Assess academic/non-academic needs, monitor progress and conduct an ongoing evaluation for each student. Emphasis on academic and career goal setting, learning strategies, time management and organization, self-regulation, and self-efficacy.
  • Develop and implement programming in areas related to grant's focus areas for student success, for example workshops, activities, and events.
  • Accurately document program services for local and federal reporting.
  • Maintain accurate contact data for each assigned participant.
  • Assist with completion of annual performance report, which serves to document services provided by program to participants.
  • Evaluate programming efforts and services, provides feedback to improve services and programming with program students.
  • Maintain collection of University-wide support resources to refer students to appropriate academic personnel and support.
  • Assist with promoting support services to the faculty, staff, and students at UTA.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in social sciences, social work, education, psychology, or related field.
  • Two Plus (2+) years of experience working with college or university students in advising, mentoring or coaching setting.
  • Experience and training in administering and interpreting individualized assessments.
  • Experience working with students in developing individual academic plans of action.
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree or graduate hours in social work, education, psychology, counseling or a related field.
  • Three (3) years or more experience providing direct case management services to college students/ adolescent community youth.
  • Experience working with low-income, first generation, and/or disable students, or TRIO-like students.
  • TRIO experience.
  • Experience in facilitating and presenting workshops in a college environment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrates ability to conduct individual and small group advisement sessions.
  • Excellent computer skills and knowledge of computer database software, data collection, data analysis and reporting.
  • Ability to aid in research and grant writing.
  • Excellent communication and team building skills.
  • Ability to build rapport and communicate effectively.
  • Computer and data entry skills.
  • Ability to problem solve, set goals, and time management skills.
  • Confidentiality & Compliance with policies and regulations (Federal and University).
  • Experience working with students in an advisory, administrative, or educational capacity.
  • Basic knowledge of program models and best practices for offering services to various populations of students, including students in academic difficulty, and students at risk for leaving the institution
  • Working knowledge of college student services, college student development theory, and retention theory.
  • Working knowledge of student information systems as related to student records and advising.
  • Working knowledge of federal regulations such as Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
  • Excellent analytical skills in interpreting quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Professional skills in the use of Microsoft Office or related software in producing reports, presentations and a variety of other related documents.
  • Ability to develop specific programming goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish desired outcomes.
