Job Summary
As a Corporate Counsel at BPMI, you will independently and proactively identify organizational needs and address as appropriate. The Corporate Counsel will carry out complex and varied assignments requiring a high order of original and creative analysis from the BPMI Leadership and require extensive input from various departments of the BPMI organization; will make primary legal determinations in matters of substantial importance to BPMI; will maintain contact with and receive direction from the Board of Directors and interface Bechtel's corporate legal department; and will direct and review work of outside counsel, as needed. You will be responsible for providing legal advice and counsel on all matters effecting BPMI activities at all BPMI locations, including Pittsburgh, PA, Schenectady, NY, Mishawaka, IN, and Barberton, OH locations.
Essential Duties:
- Serve as legal counsel and advisor to BPMI Leadership on the full range of BPMI activities and performing assignments as requested.
- Provide counsel regarding government contracting and prime contract compliance issues.
- Act as legal resource to BPMI management regarding employment law issues, Labor Relations, union matters, and employee benefit issues, including ERISA.
- Carry out assignments independently and make final legal determinations in matters of substantial importance to BPMI.
- Proactively identify issues and needs of BPMI and work collaboratively with BPMI management to address and resolve needs.
- Interface with company management, provide support to the BPMI Board of Directors as needed, and confer and negotiate with attorneys representing other companies and with the Government and the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program (NNPP).
- Advise BPMI management regarding subcontracting and procurement in the government contracting environment.
- Advise on Export Control matters including federal regulations/licensing under International Traffic in Arms Regulations.
- Collaborate with BPMI management in the development and application of company policies, procedures, and business practices.
- Provide counsel in prevention, handling and settlement of lawsuits, charges, and claims.
- Advise on the legal aspects and implications on the full range of federal and state laws and regulations affecting the BPMI organization.
- Advise on and support EEO and Environmental, Safety, and Health program objectives.

Minimum Job Requirements:
- J.D. degree from accredited law school program.
- 7 years' experience as an attorney representing a corporation, the U.S. Government, U.S. Government contractor, or other related corporate law experience.
- Licensed to practice law in Pennsylvania, or the ability to obtain Limited In-House Corporate Counsel License within 6 months.
- Requires a security clearance; however, all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy security clearance is required.
Preferred Job Requirements:
- Current license to practice law in the state of Pennsylvania.
- Current Secret government clearance.
- Previous legal experience working with the NNPP.
- Additional education and/or experience in government contracting.
- Working knowledge and understanding of the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR).
- Experience working as counsel for a government contractor.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
- Keen attention to detail.
