The University of Iowa International Programs is seeking a talented and creative individual to join its Communications and Relations (C&R) unit as a Creative and Social Media Specialist with a focus on social media, video and audio production, and online community engagement at 100% time (40 hours/week).
The ideal candidate will be a savvy communicator who is well-versed in the digital environment and is detail-oriented, a strong writer, with a background in multimedia skills including video and audio production. The candidate will demonstrate an ability to tailor multimedia messages to key audiences, including current students, alumni, faculty, staff, and community members. This position demands creativity, cultural competency, a passion for social media with an eye toward new trends, and an ability to translate complex material into accessible, relevant content. They will also have the opportunity to:
- Develop and implement social media strategy that is aligned with International Programs' strategic plan. Determine best social media channels for specific messages.
- Manage content across Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, and YouTube, as well as any other platforms that are determined to be appropriate for our purposes. Consult and coordinate messaging with colleagues at the unit and program level within International Programs as well as university social media counterparts across campus.
- Write and edit select articles, stories, and news for online and print channels and for a variety of audiences.
- Oversee and analyze social media analytics to determine the effectiveness of each type of messaging.

About the Department:At the University of Iowa, International Programs functions as a catalyst for internationalization and a hub for international activities. In 1997, the Iowa Board of Regents brought international research, instruction, and services together under the leadership of an associate provost and dean, and assistant provost for International Programs. The International Programs department provides leadership and support for internationally oriented teaching, research, creative work, and community engagement.
Required Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, marketing, business, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- At least one year of experience creating social media content across channels for an organization, company, or institution.
Competencies Required: - Demonstrates a working proficiency level in the following competencies:
- Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to create content for various media platforms, including websites, newsletters, press releases, and social media; and under deadline for a variety of purposes, goals, audiences, and media.
- Proficiency in media production tools, including photography, videography, and video editing.
- Proficiency in creativity and innovation, challenging accepted ways of operating while maintaining pragmatism and encouraging imaginative ideas.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, with attention to detail and the ability to handle multiple tasks under pressure.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within a team and work with a variety of stakeholders, including faculty, students, and external partners.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with experience interacting with internal and external stakeholders in a professional setting.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently.
Desirable Qualifications: - Experience working in higher education
- Knowledge of University of Iowa policies and procedures.
- Experience supporting international efforts

Compensation: $46,000 - $55,000 with Competitive Benefits
