Job Summary:
Contributes to patient care by assisting in high level, complex Mohs surgery and reconstructive repairs, in collaboration with other departments including oculoplastics, otolaryngology, and plastic surgery. Maintains proper sterile environment and handling of various surgical instruments, including suction. Completes standard rooming responsibilities for clinic appointments, including pre-visit planning, charting, taking vital signs, and other tasks as outlined in the clinical competency assessment. Performs complex suture removal, bandage changes, and wound care follow-up according to provider requests. Demonstrates patient care excellence by providing hands-on, compassionate patient support throughout surgery and discharge, including assisting the physician with providing discharge instructions to the patient.
EXPERIENCE DESCRIPTION:
Medical Assistant or Surgical Tech experience is preferred. A minimum of 1 year of experience as a medical assistant in a surgical work area, a surgical technologist, a certified nursing assistant, or EMT is preferred.
EDUCATION DESCRIPTION:
High School diploma or equivalent is required. Completion of a Certified Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, Surgical Technician or EMT education program is required. In lieu of certification; two years of experience as a Mohs technician will be accepted.
SPECIAL SKILLS DESCRIPTION:
Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to prioritize and multitask, detail-oriented in patient care. Knowledge of medical terminology, sterile technique, and surgical instruments preferred. Demonstrate a high level of teamwork and collaboration with peers in making decisions related to surgical patient care.
LICENSURE DESCRIPTION:
American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider (BLS) or an AHA approved equivalent is required within 90 days of hire. Certification is preferred for those who have completed the CNA, MA, ST, or EMT programs.
