Purpose

The Director of Individual Giving (Director) is a strategic and accomplished fundraiser with experience in major and annual gifts, stewardship and events. The Director is responsible for the strategy and management of major gift operations, supervision of major gift officers and development team and the cultivation and solicitation of a small portfolio. The Director will also be responsible for building, growing and oversite of CWS's pipeline through identification, cultivation and solicitation and seeking out new areas of support from individuals and Family Foundations. The Director of Individual Giving is responsible for implementing a national strategy for increased giving from general donors to mid-major donors and facilitating integrations with a variety of individual giving opportunities such as recurring monthly donations and direct mail. Provides guidance and oversight to the Individual Giving team in the achievement of the principal objective of ensuring Church World Service's current and future financial viability. She/he works collaboratively with other fund-raising staff as required. Frequent travel within the US is required to build and maintain relationships with donors. Due to the nature of this position, some evening and weekend work as well as travel is required.

Responsibilities

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Responsible for supervising Individual Giving Team.
  • Participates in the hiring and training of team.
  • Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.
  • Provide oversight, mentoring and training for team and revenue and expense budgets.

Essential Duties
  • Personally raise $1,500,000 through identification, cultivation and solicitation of major and yearly donors.
  • Maintain and develop a donor portfolio (75-100 donors/prospects) through Salesforce to optimize fundraising opportunities.
  • Manage major fundraising campaigns such as #GivingTuesday, End of Year giving and Direct Mail.
  • Collaborate with leadership to develop strategies for solicitation of endowment gifts.
  • Create and manage a revenue and expense budget as approved by senior leadership.
  • Develop and implement an annual stewardship plan for all annual and major donors.
  • Support sponsorship solicitation for events.
  • Promote Planned giving vehicles and solicit bequests from donors.
  • Participate in the Funds Development strategic planning process.
  • Plan and execute integrated, strategic, and innovative communications in support of achieving fundraising goals. Review all donor communication related to acknowledgement letters, newsletters, solicitation letters etc.
  • Extract and analyze data to make effective, efficient decisions about donor strategy and process. Utilize a working knowledge of modern data management practices and technological innovations that can streamline advancement processes and contribute to the integration of related functions.
  • Act as primary point of contact for funding and donation inquiries

Qualifications

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree
  • 10+ years of fundraising experience including individual solicitation of donors and 5-8 years of supervisory experience.
  • Experience with planned giving vehicles and experience with bequest discussions with donors
  • Proven track record of closing major and annual gifts
  • Experience with fundraising events
  • Experience with a CRM and/or Salesforce
  • Team-player with a positive attitude who can effectively work with multiple styles.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Creative and passionate
  • Outstanding customer service
  • Able to travel extensively (up to 40% of time)
  • Experience working and/or volunteering in a multi-cultural, ecumenical or interfaith environment.
Other Skills
Computer literacy in outlook; video conference, word processing, spreadsheet and database applications. Valid driver's license and ability to travel throughout the U.S. and assigned territory for donor visits and meetings.
