WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

The VEG Medical Quality mission is "Making it easy to deliver clinically excellent care the VEG way." You will support that mission by collaborating with our medical leaders, medical educators, and frontline VEGgies, focusing on impactful medical quality solutions that are practical, frontline-focused, and enhance best practice medicine.

You will work 1-2 shifts per month in the hospital so you can stay connected to frontline needs and experience firsthand the impact of medical quality initiatives. Frontline VEGgies will see you as both an extension of VQ and as one of the team when you're in the hospital. You will solicit and integrate feedback on how quality and patient safety improvements can make it easier for them to deliver clinically excellent care, particularly related to clinical resources and our electronic health record and treatment sheets. Frontline leaders and employees will look to you as an expert and partner for piloting and successfully implementing clinical and quality initiatives.

You help them continually develop their skills and knowledge as they strive to do it better every day!

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create and disseminate new and updated VEG Medical Quality content including clinical guidelines and one pagers with a focus on practical resources with a widespread impact
  • Identify and create patient safety features such as default treatment instructions and safety alerts in the VEG electronic health record
  • Create and manage medical quality projects from proposal to pilot implementation, data/feedback collection, and continuous improvement
  • Ensure ongoing improvement and innovation of care delivery processes and systems
  • Work with field leaders (regional, market, and local) on skill building and engagement in medical quality and patient safety programs
  • Provide assistance to medical leadership teams for patient safety events and case reviews, partnering with them to create solutions
  • Identify frontline education and training opportunities, focusing on areas with practical and wide-spread impact
  • Obtain frontline feedback about content, training, and medical quality needs
  • Provide consistent feedback on frontline training and resource needs to Medical Education and Medical Operations team
  • Develop and implement pilots and clinical studies in collaboration with the medical field leadership and local medical leaders
  • Remain up to date with current research and plan research projects
  • Represent VEG at conferences and industry events, with particular emphasis on quality and patient safety

WHO YOU ARE

  • DVM, VMD, or equivalent
  • DACVECC (or board-eligible) or equivalent preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in emergency medicine
  • 3+ years in academic emergency/specialty environment preferred
  • 3+ years experience training, mentoring, and developing veterinary students, interns, and/or residents
  • Multiple historical publications or equivalent experience that reflect skilled medical authorship required
  • Experience lecturing at universities and/or conferences required
  • State licensure that is in good standing OR eligibility for such licensure in at least 3 states with a VEG hospital
  • Medical leadership experience preferred
  • Project management experience
  • A commitment to mentorship and elevating the next generation of vets
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Skilled at stakeholder management and cross-functional collaboration
  • Clear and direct written and verbal communication to inspire, motivate, guide, and influence local leaders
  • Strong critical-thinking and creative problem-solving abilities, as this role is strategic in nature
  • Strong financial and data literacy skills
  • Genuine desire to improve one's own skills and knowledge at all times and eager to both be a teacher and to learn from others
  • Sets aside time to study up to date veterinary medical trends to ensure VEG hospitals maintain medical excellenceMust be able travel up to 15%-25% of the time to various VEG hospitals when needed, occasionally including weekends and holidays. Additional travel to VQ on an as-needed basis for medical leadership meetings and project work.
