SUMMARY

The Engineering Technician IV will be supporting the buildup and modernization of USSC (United States Space Command) facilities around Colorado Springs. The purpose of this task is to provide Command, Control, Communications, Computers and Intelligence (C4I)/Information Technology (IT) electronic systems equipment, infrastructure, engineering, design, installation, and Supply and Warehouse support to Naval Information Warfare Center Pacific (NIWC Pacific) during design, installation, configuration, and transition to operations of the IT infrastructure for multiple facilities throughout the period of performance. Services required include design, installation, termination, test, and documentation of desktop devices, peripherals, IT cable plant, rack, power distribution units (PDU) and incident to the installation of C4I/IT electronic systems, installation of C4I/IT electronic systems equipment as assigned and in accordance with government installation design plans (IDP), the NIWC Pacific Shore Installation Process Handbook (SIPH) and project sponsor processes and associated logistical support. The work described herein is conducted within existing classified office spaces, IT data centers, IT telecommunications spaces or other spaces designated to house C4I/IT electronics systems equipment and newly constructed secure building.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

The Engineering Technician will provide support for cabling, equipment and C4ISR system installations.

Pulls, terminates and dresses Category 6A and Fiber Optic cabling. Installs and documents IT equipment, cable conveyance, antennas and supporting systems.

Support teammates to help the team meets required technical abilities.

Contributes to all phases of the AV and IT infrastructure installation or upgrade.

Pulls and dresses fiber optic and Category 6A copper cables.

Installs of racks/cabinets/credenzas and all peripheral equipment.

Racks and stacks of equipment in racks/credenzas.

Terminates copper cable up to CAT6A and SM/MM Fiber single strand to MPO/MTP.

Helps to solve issues related to cables and networks with minimal oversite

Tests and documents of all cables.

Installs of Thinklogical, Extron and Creston AV Matrix Routing and Extension Solutions.

Installs per a SIPH standard IDP, adapt/troubleshoot/modify where necessary, and provides

redlines back to an AutoCAD drafter for As-built updates.

Helps team to resolve technical/physical issues often requiring coordination with other disciplines: networking, facilities, HVAC, electrical, security, etc.

Conducts and documents PITCO activities.

Performs with guidance and/or instruction assignments that are not completely standardized or prescribed.

Adapts standard procedures or equipment, using fully applicable precedents per instruction of team leads

Receives initial instructions, equipment requirements, and advice from team lead, supervisor, engineer as needed and is able to implement instruction with minimal oversite. Work is reviewed for technical adequacy or conformity with instructions.

Provides support in the demolition and disposal of current powers system equipment under supervision of electrician maintenance.

Conducts performance tests of IT and AV systems.

Supports daily activities within the guidelines of company policy, job description and supervisor's instruction in such a way as to maximize personal output.

Responsible for aiding in own self-development by being available and receptive to all training made available by the company.

Responsible for keeping own immediate work area in a neat and orderly condition to ensure safety of self and co-workers. Will report any unsafe conditions and/or practices to the appropriate supervisor and human resources. Will immediately correct any unsafe conditions as the best of own ability.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

Associate degree, technical certification and/or a minimum of five (5) years' related experience supporting cabling, equipment and IT Network System Installation. Minimum five (5) years of troubleshooting and repairing systems. Minimum five (5) years' experience in using Microsoft office and other AV software programs; or equivalent combination of education/experience.

CERTIFICATES / LICENSES / REGISTRATION

TS required and SCI preferred but highly recommended.

BICSI installer 2 Copper and Installer 2 Fiber Certification

CTS preferred

CTS-D preferred

CTS-I preferred

JOB SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES

Operational knowledge of Personal Computer Systems and Microsoft Office Suite

Practical knowledge of construction, service maintenance and operation procedures of IT and AV related systems and equipment.

Practical knowledge of IT and AV installation methods and techniques.

Knowledge of AV equipment assembly and testing.

Technical proficiency and effective problem-solving skills.

Excellent verbal and written communications skills with ability to create and interpret a variety of technical materials.

Excellent customer service and relationship-building skills and ability to effectively interact with others in the performance of assigned duties.

Ability to prepare, read and interpret engineering drawings, schematic diagrams and technical directives.

Willingness and ability to learn new concepts and techniques.

Ability to effectively work both individually and in a team environment.

Ability to travel to client worksites on as needed basis within a 50-mile radius from the home duty station.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

The pay range for this role is $30.34-$44.16/hour, with the final offer amount dependent on location, skillset, and experience.
