Primary Role
Work Schedule: Tuesday to Saturday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Field Service Representatives are responsible for installing, inspecting, maintenance and repair activities in and on facilities and equipment in the general utility plant, related generally to meter reading, maintenance, replacement, and repair. Responsible to uphold all Company policies and procedures relative to safety and act in a professional manner to reduce the exposure of hazards to employees, customers, contractors, and themselves.
Key Accountabilities
Safety
• Use safe working practices in the performance of duties. Ensure proper safety practices are used by all workers, including stopping all work, if necessary, to maintain a safe working environment.
• Perform routine and preventive maintenance of vehicles, tools, and equipment.
• Take prompt, corrective measures to eliminate hazards.
Trust
• Complete all forms, timesheets, inspection sheets and other documents as required by the Company or governing board(s) or committee(s).
• Investigate customer complaints of high usage or no water.
• Communicate with customers on site and with coworkers to satisfy customer requests or inquiries.
• Read, test, inspect and maintain metering facilities, including, but not limited to, valves, vaults, curb stops, meters and service settings in accordance with American Water, AWWA, and/or governmental standards.
• Enter businesses and/or homes in order to perform Field Services duties consistent with the job requirements for a Field Service Representative.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with public officials, employees and the public.
• Maintain regular, predictable and punctual attendance.
• Work a flexible schedule, which will include evenings, weekends, holidays and overtime.
Environmental Leadership
• Examine meter usage and location to ensure water is used appropriately and the facilities are not leaking.
• Closely monitor routes for leaking water mains, meters, hydrants, valves and other facilities to ensure appropriate actions are taken to limit water loss.
Teamwork
• Train General Field Service Workers
• May work alone or in teams.
High Performance
• Operate vehicles, machinery and specialized equipment used in the operation and maintenance of the Commercial facilities, including, but not limited to: pickup and/or utility trucks, off-road vehicles, valve operators, cutting tools, forklifts and fork trucks, various hand tools, and other equipment necessary for Field Services work.
• Install and maintain water meters, service material, couplings, lids, locks, and plugs within meter pits, boxes, vaults, above- and below-ground settings.
• Inspect meters, valves, and pipes to detect defects, such as leaks or malfunctioning meters both visually and using testing equipment.
• Turn mainline and service valves to close or open water flow through pipelines and services. Disconnects water pipe and connects water meter to outlet and inlet pipe unions, using hand tools
• Utilize laptop and desktop computers, smart phones, tablets and/or other handheld devices to enter data, complete orders, compute and enter timesheets, and other duties as required and assigned.
• Perform other duties as required.
