Fire Science Hourly Instructor

Prairie State College seeks experienced firefighters/fire officers to teach firefighter and fire officer courses starting immediately. Successful candidates will have a desire to engage a diverse student population in various levels of Fire Service education. The successful candidate will have a flexible schedule for teaching assignments.

FST 119 (Basic Firefighter Operations Academy) meets Monday's and Wednesday's from 7p to 10p and Saturday's from 8:30 to 5, and runs 24 weeks in duration. We use a pool of instructors to teach the various Basic Firefighter subjects. EMS 101 (Emergency Medical Technician Academy) meets Tuesday's and Thursdays from 7p to 10p and some Saturday's from 8:30 to 5, and runs 16 weeks in duration. We use a pool of instructors to teach the various EMT subjects.

Candidates for these courses should have some tech savvy and have experience in the Instructing environment. Other face to face courses includes Vehicle Machinery Operations, Haz Mat Operations, Rope Operations, Fire Apparatus Engineer and Advanced Firefighter Technician. These courses have a range of days/times and durations during the term

Direct reporting relationship to the Assistant Professor/Coordinator HVAC and Fire Science Technology.

1. Basic Operations Fire AcademyPractical assistants must be OSFM Basic Operations Firefighter certified (including Haz Mat Ops).

2. Classroom instructors must be OSFM Instructor I certified.

3. All other instructors must be OSFM Instructor II certified plus certified to the level of the course they wish to teach

Maximum of 19 hours per week
