Job Description
Under indirect supervision, the Radiographer performs quality diagnostic radiographic, interventional radiology and cardiac catheter procedures utilizing the concepts and principles of radiation protection/safety. Coordinates daily work schedule and activities of the lab according to department need. Operates sophisticated Radiographic, Fluoroscopic, portable and Interventional imaging equipment according to protocol and procedure. Prepares and administers oral and IV contrast media according to protocol.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs a variety of diagnostic and therapeutic interventional procedures to ensure the quality and continuity of patient care. Ensures completion of all work assignments prior to end of shift to assist with reduced length of stay initiatives.
  • Verifies patient identity and reviews each patient's requisition for consistency of examination ordered with clinical diagnosis and all demographic information. Records pertinent data on requisition at all times.
  • Assesses patient condition, ensures patient safety through proper radiation safety practices and proper positioning devices. Demonstrates ability to organize patient care and set priorities by providing critical care first and by implementing the physician's orders.
  • Inserts, maintains, and discontinues Heparin lock or IV access devices as required by patient condition. Administers IV contrast media through said devices. Monitors patient vital signs and recognizes contraindications.
  • Selects sets up, and maintains sterile tray and accessories according to scheduled procedure.
  • Processes all patients through the Meditech system before end of shift to ensure proper documentation and billing information. Identifies and inputs all appropriate charges for procedures and supplies.
  • Recommends, participates, and assists in the implementation of expense control initiatives.
  • Prepares patient for sterile procedure according to department and hospital protocol.
  • Properly marks and identifies all radiographs and digital images.
  • Reports all safety hazards and/or radiographic or Interventional equipment malfunctions that could harm patients, visitors or other hospital employees to appropriate supervisor immediately.
  • Works in conjunction with IR nurses and physicians to monitor patient condition throughout procedures. Is able to recognize basic cardiac rhythms and use the Mac Lab when necessary.
  • Maintains proper stocking and cleanliness of Interventional rooms.
  • Establishes and maintains a good rapport and working relationship with departmental staff, hospital staff, patients, families, physicians, and hospital visitors.
  • As identified in the department/unit specific competency plan, demonstrates:
    • The technical competence necessary to provide quality care to age specific population.
    • The ability to assess the developmental needs of age specific population.
    • The ability to use equipment in a safe and proper manner.
  • Other duties as assigned by appropriate supervisor/manager.

    Qualifications
    • Required graduate of an AMA approved Radiologic Technology School. Required registered by the
    • ARRT and licensed by the state of Maryland. Required successful completion of basic cardiac rhythm recognition course.
    • Minimum one (I) year radiology, and six (6) months Interventional experience (willing to train the right individual) following graduation from an approved school.

    Compensation
    • Pay Range: $58.095-$71.005
    • Other Compensation (if applicable): Eligible for Shift Differential
