Position Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Specimen Collection Specialist to join our dynamic laboratory team. In this role, you will perform essential specimen collections and ensure accurate processing while providing excellent customer service to patients and healthcare professionals.

Key Responsibilities:

Specimen Collection:

Collect specimens from patients of all ages, ensuring proper identification and labeling with no more than 2 variances/year.
Demonstrate proper techniques in blood, urine, stool, and fluid collections, adhering to facility protocols.
Maintain current knowledge of collection methods and explain procedures to patients, nurses, and physicians.
Manage time-sensitive collections (e.g., codes, timed draws, and STATs) efficiently.
Customer Service & Clerical Duties:

Provide excellent customer service by addressing technical questions and directing inquiries appropriately.
Accurately perform specimen accessioning and manage clerical tasks related to the laboratory process.
Maintain clear and effective communication with colleagues and patients.
Specimen Accessioning:

Accurately receive specimens in the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and resolve compliance issues promptly.
Prioritize incoming specimens, ensuring quality checks are performed for acceptability.
Specimen Processing:

Ensure integrity during processing and prepare specimens for send-outs according to policy.
Review and resolve outstanding issues in send-out reports and maintain accurate documentation.
Testing and Quality Control:

Perform testing as per departmental policies, recognizing and reporting any deviations in results.
Conduct quality control checks and assist in compliance with regulatory requirements.
Timely Testing:

Complete routine and STAT tests within established timeframes.
Collaborate with team members to ensure all tasks are completed efficiently.

Qualifications
Qualifications:

  • Experience Minimum Required
    • Phlebotomy experience
  • Experience Preferred/Desired
    • Completion or enrollment in a Laboratory Medical Science Program. Previous lab aide work in a clinical environment
  • Education Minimum Required
    • H.S. diploma or equivalent; Additional certificate or study within a related science field.
  • Education Preferred/Desired
    • Med Lab Science Student or previous lab aide experience
