Walla Walla Community College is accepting applications to fill the part-time role of Laboratory Support Technician on the Walla Walla Campus.

General Responsibilities:
The Laboratory Support Technician will fill a multifaceted educational support position at the Walla Walla campus. This technician will provide direct support to science instruction through management of the laboratories and prep areas.
Physics Lab Support:
Collaborate with supervisor and science faculty to determine equipment, pending lab sessions.Anticipate and communicate needs to supervisor with respect to lab materials, supplies, and equipment to ensure continuity of instructional labs.Assist students in learning the specifics of lab equipment and appropriate handling of materials to be used during the lab exercise, while emphasizing safety.Maintain a safe, secure, well-organized and adequately stocked storage space for instruments, equipment, glassware and chemical reagents.Communicate the need for regular preventative maintenance and repair on scientific instruments and devices, such as Vernier lab equipment.Notify facilities of maintenance and repair needs.Follow safe laboratory standards and practices including the handling, storage, and equipment, and bring safety concerns forward to the supervisor.Essential Functions:Equipment Maintenance and use
Tasks include:
Clean, and maintain equipment after use. Maintain equipment standards and repair or replace as neededProperly store equipmentProperly dispose or surplus equipment according to college policies and surplus specialist.Maintain a safe working environment by following EH&S, OSHA, federal, and state regulations and standards Laboratory Environment Maintenance
Tasks include:
Maintain clean work areas and lab benches Clean work surfaces between labsMake sure all electrical devices are in working order and safe to useMaintain clean refrigerators and incubators or any appliances General Lab Maintenance
Tasks include:
Assemble and dismantle lab equipment and materialsMaintain organize storage, and supply drawers, prep room, and lab spaces accordinglyAssist in maintaining equipment, and instruments as directed Notify supervisor, facilities or maintenance when repairs are neededGeneral Laboratory Support
Tasks include:
Participate in regular meetings to outline weekly assignments and ensure standards are being met to the satisfaction of the teamAssist students and support instructors during labsEffectively communicate needs and concerns as they arise.Competencies

This part-time temporary position (up to 17-hours per week) is located at the Walla Walla Campus.
Work is performed almost exclusively indoors in a lab classroom and prep room. May include: Combination of sitting, walking, standing, bending, stooping, or carrying light objects. Lab techs may work around hazardous materials. Computer with mouse and keyboard and internet will be used. General lab measuring equipment such as balances, pipettes and small hand-held devices will be used.
