Job Title: Lead Engineer - Substations
Reports to: Unit Manager Customer Funded Development
In Office Locations: Rochester, NY (RGE-3 City Center / Augusta, ME (CMP- ME-Augusta General Office) / Binghamton, NY (NYSEG-NY-Kirkwood JACC) / Orange, CT (UI-CT-Marsh Hill Road)
The base salary range for this position is dependent upon experience and location, ranging from $111,544- $139,431
Job Summary
The Lead Engineer in the Customer Funded Development Department is responsible for overseeing the portfolio of projects assigned to the unit. This role will create pre-conceptual engineering for load and generator interconnections. This role ensures that each project adheres to regulatory requirements, company standards.
The lead engineer will lead teams/projects that solve complex problems taking a broad perspective to identify innovative solutions. Able to work independently with guidance on only the most complex tasks. Participates and represents Avangrid on industry associations. Follow updates in research and development in the power industry, through training and industry associations.
This position is responsible for high voltage, medium voltage, and low voltage transmission and distribution line and substation pre-conceptual designs for all operating companies in Avangrid Networks.

Your responsibilities will include mentoring junior team members, providing direction on complex projects, and fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment. Your leadership will be crucial in driving our team's success and ensuring the professional growth of each engineer under your guidance.
Ensure all specifications meet applicable company, local, state, and national codes and standards (NESC, FERC, NERC, NPCC, NYISO, NY PSC, etc.). The Lead Electrical Engineer will report directly to the Unit Manager and work closely with cross-functional project teams to support project needs as directed by the Unit Manager.
Skills/Abilities:
- Good interpersonal and communications skills
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Knowledge of project management.
Experience/Training:
- 5-7 years of experience in engineering including electric substation
experience and line engineering work.
Certifications:
- Professional Engineering license in applicable state.
Required Education: Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or
Electrical Technology.
