In the Bowling Lab, we are interested in understanding how mammalian embryos are able to tolerate major perturbations in development, such as coping with cell mutation, cell loss, and cell gain. Our ultimate goal is to use this knowledge to harness resilience mechanisms in disease, ageing, and regeneration. We use a combination of classical embryological approaches together with next-generation tools, including in vivo barcoding mouse models that enable us to simultaneously trace millions of cells in the mouse during development or adulthood. As a new lab, the position will benefit from lots of direct interaction and mentorship from Dr. Bowling, as well as the opportunity to be involved with multiple projects ongoing in the lab. In addition to submitting your application via the Stanford web portal, please email your CV and cover letter directly to Dr. Sarah Bowling at sarah.bowling@stanford.edu.Duties include: * Plan and carry out experiments, analyze data, interpret and discuss findings with team-members, troubleshoot experiments, develop protocols.
* Work in teams to create new tools for understanding mechanisms of tissue resilience and embryonic responses to perturbation.
* Perform lab management activities, including: maintaining, ordering, and organizing lab stock; managing chemical inventory and safety records; unpacking reagent deliveries; managing and maintaining mouse colonies; performing mouse genotyping; providing general lab support as needed.
* Assisting with orientation and training of new staff or students on lab procedures or techniques.
* Reviewing literature on an ongoing basis to remain current with new procedures and apply learnings to related research.
