St. Norbert College (SNC), a nationally-ranked, private, Catholic, liberal arts college is seeking a Marketplace Shift Supervisor for Ruth's Marketplace. Join a team that is ranked "Best College Food in Wisconsin" by students on Niche and top-ranked nationally. The Marketplace Shift Supervisor is responsible for supporting Ruth's Marketplace in the absence of the Manager and P.M. Assistant Manager. This is a working supervisor position that spends the majority of the shift working in the Marketplace as well as training and overseeing the work of students.

Regular work hours are Sunday - Thursday, 12:30 pm - 9:00 pm. This is a year-round position that works 10 months at Ruth's Marketplace and 2 months as summer conference business support.

Specific responsibilities:

  • Direct and oversee the work of 10-12 students in the Marketplace. Assign workstations.

  • Oversee meal service, using standardized procedures and safe use of equipment to ensure the quality of items. Serve food in a timely manner while providing excellent customer service. Monitor and record food and equipment temperature levels according to food safety practices.

  • Train students to work all stations in the Marketplace, dish room, and seating areas. This includes safe use of equipment, proper cleaning procedures, and closing duties.

  • Support summer conference and catering business, including general housekeeping, deep cleaning, and meal service.

  • Clean and sanitize all work areas, dinnerware, equipment, and supplies.

  • Close meal service following standard procedures. Lock and secure Marketplace. Document progress reports at the end of the day, close the cash register, and make cash deposits.

  • Set and clean up, stock and replenish food, equipment, and dinnerware during the shift. Maintain inventory, stock food and coolers, prep food, sweep and mop, take out garbage and recycling, wash pots, pans, and dishes.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned and attend College required training. Regular attendance is required.

  • Work in a manner that is aware of personal safety and the safety of others and observes safety, health and sanitation codes, regulations, or practices required by the College or governmental authority.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • 2 years of retail/institutional food service or equivalent.

  • 1 year of supervisory work and cash handling

  • Ability to obtain ServSafe Manager certification upon hire

  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse campus environment or commitment to do so as an employee of St. Norbert College.

  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment.

  • Ability to interact professionally with coworkers and customers, particularly in conflict situations.

  • Ability to talk politely and resolve customer service issues.

  • Ability to multitask, meet specific deadlines, and prioritize tasks and assignments.

  • Knowledge of computer programs (Microsoft Office, Google Apps) and ability to learn upgrades and new programs as needed.

  • Ability to exercise good judgment and decisions expeditiously.

  • Skilled at setting a good example for others.

  • Ability to concentrate and focus in a noisy environment.

  • Ability to pass a post offer functional capacity test.

  • Walking and standing the entire shift working on campus in a dining room environment. Replenishing food and equipment in a fast paced environment. Lifting below the waist occasionally up to 50 lbs. Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling no more than 30 lbs frequently.
