The Role
This position will report to the O41 Plant Engineering Technical Services Manager and be responsible for leading an engaged, multi-disciplined team of engineers and engineering technicians. Area of responsibility (AOR) will include the following items:
• Provide technical oversight and engineering direction to support the operation and maintenance of NNS dry docks and certified facilities, piers, outfitting berths, and railroad track system.
• Manage the NNS Dry Docks and Certified Safety Certification Program (SCP) per MIL-STD-1625D (SH) for all dry docks and certified facilities.
• Support the execution of the NNS Annual Control Inspection (ACI) program per MIL-STD-1625D (SH).
• Serve as an active member of the NNS Dock Authority Group (DAG).
• Support all NAVSEA04/08 and SUPSHIP audits and inspections.
• Address emergent maintenance, safety, production and plant equipment issues.
• Develop and manage the Long Range Strategic Plan (LRSP) for NNS infrastructure and equipment within AOR.
• Support the O41 Dry Dock SCP team on all pertinent SCP Navy Correspondence pertaining to facilities certified to MIL-STD 1625D (SH).
• Support the O41 Dry Dock SCP team in the development and formalization of NNS dry dock engineering processes and procedures.
• Lead Team Learning Sessions (TLSs) and root cause analysis in support of continuous improvement within AOR.
• Candidate will need to have strong communication, presentation and project management skills and will serve as liaison with NAVSEA04 and local SUPSHIP office.
• Candidate should have experience working in a fast paced environment and be capable of prioritizing team task assignments to support the mission of the shipyard.
• Candidate will need to promote an engaging atmosphere with the team, while completing assigned tasks on schedule and within budget.
Must Have
Bachelor's Degree and 6 years of progressive technical experience in research, engineering and design; Master's Degree and 4 years of relevant experience.
Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
Nice to Have
Heavy industrial facilities experience.
Able to quickly learn and adapt to new technology applications.
Possesses comprehensive knowledge of ship/dock design and construction.
Familiar with the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code, International Building Code, City of Newport News Code of Ordinances, ADA compliance, and NFPA requirements.
Candidate with strong leadership and management skills.
Understanding of company business management principles and have demonstrated the ability to manage and direct the work of others.
Experience with causal analysis.
Experience and ability to perform continuous self-assessment with development of corrective actions
