The Role

This position is for the Manager 3 responsible for future submarine design HM&E (non-propulsion) mechanical systems. This area designs machinery systems, fluid and mechanical systems, ocean interfaces and payload handling systems, and integrates vendor and government-developed components. This position works hand in hand with electrical, structural, system, and other design disciplines to develop integrated solutions for emerging submarine programs. Current efforts include SSN(X), future VIRGINIA Class blocks, and other undersea systems. The position will grow and lead multiple supervisor groups of mechanical engineers, and may also include technicians, designers, and project managers. Regular interface with NAVSEA-05, NUWC-NPT, UARCs, and other government and industry organizations.

Must Have

Bachelor's Degree and 8 years of progressive technical experience in research, engineering and design; Master's Degree and 6 years of relevant experience; PhD and 4 years of relevant experience.

Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

Nice to Have

The preferred candidate has established relationships with key stakeholders in the submarine machinery community and experience in the design and development of submarine systems. Alternatively, expertise developed as a Navy submarine operator or in related government engineering functions may suffice. Candidates must also have experience in leading projects and engineering teams, with demonstrated capabilities required for leading an engineering department.
