The Modeling and Simulation Engineering Manager will lead a team of engineers and scientists to develop, implement, and optimize simulation models that support the design, analysis, and improvement of energy systems and products. This position is responsible for leading the M&S Engineering team to provide modeling and simulation support to optimize product designs and to virtually verify full system, subsystem and component performance to drive innovation and excellence in the development of products related to distributed energy resources (DERs), power distribution products for microgrid, EV charging, crypto mining and data center markets.

This role is critical to our extreme growth plan. The ideal candidate will be a technically focused experienced engineering manager with a business mind, strong organizational skills, a savvy leader and familiar with M&S technology across multiple domains, M&S standards and processes, product development cycles, is familiar with the intricacies of a fast-paced environment, have a strong desire for growth and be a great communicator.

Must have technical acumen, a proven track record of effective team leadership, a process and organizational mindset, familiarity with R&D processes, R&D documentation, the ability to present to and engage with both technical and non-technical audiences, continuous improvement tools and techniques, strong communication and interpersonal skills, effective project management skills and budgeting and resource allocation.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: Master's degree in Engineering, Computer Science or a related field. Ph.D. in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field preferred.

Experience: 10+ years of experience in modeling and simulation, with at least 3 years in a managerial role. Experience in the energy sector; with a focus on microgrid, DER products, renewable energy, hydrogen, and geothermal technologies preferred.

  • Proficiency in simulation software such as MATLAB, Simulink, or similar tools.
  • Experience with advanced simulation techniques such as finite element analysis (FEA) or computational fluid dynamics (CFD).
  • Proficient in hardware-in-the-loop (HIL), model-in-loop (MIL), and software-in-the-loop (SIL) simulation platforms.
  • Familiarity with programming languages such as Python or C/C++.
  • Strong understanding of renewable energy systems, including solar, wind, power conversion, and energy storage technologies.
  • Knowledge and experience with Controls, Technology Integration, Research and Development, Green Technologies, Hydrogen, Fuel cell, renewable energy, and Internal Combustion Engines.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong understanding of MATLAB/Simulink, Simscape, Amesim, Speedgoat, dSPACE, NI LabVIEW, NI-Veristand, Mode-Frontier, Gurobi, GT Power Suite, JMP, Statistical Software, Visual Basic, Optimization algorithms, path planning and dynamic optimization preferred.
  • Strong understanding of related regulatory frameworks and industry standards related to the relevant energy technologies: Microgrid, Power generation, and Energy storage preferred.
  • Knowledge of grid integration and energy management systems preferred.
  • Proven track record of leading successful projects in the renewable energy sector preferred.


Travel: 0-25%

Work Schedule: This position works between the hours of 7 AM and 5 PM, Monday- Friday. Works a sufficient schedule to meet the expectations of the role.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Leads and manages a team of engineers and scientists in the development and optimization of simulation models for renewable energy systems.
  • Evaluates systems and components using modeling and simulation tools across multiple simulation domains (Structural Analysis (Linear/Non-linear and fatigue)), NVH, CFD, fluid/thermal, 1D, powertrain), analyzing results and providing reports with findings and recommendations to ensure safety, quality, cost, reliability and desired performance requirements are met.
  • Oversees the creation, implementation, and validation of simulation models to ensure accuracy and reliability.
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams to integrate simulation results into the design and development process.
  • Provides technical guidance and mentorship to team members.
  • Stays up-to-date with the latest advancements in simulation techniques and renewable energy technologies.
  • Prepares and presents technical reports and project updates to stakeholders.
  • Provides leadership, outstanding people skills and management to a team of engineers, technicians and scientists.
  • Coaches and mentors team by developing best practices to ensure safety, quality and compliance requirements are met to align with company product development and production goals and implement a best practice team vision plan, policies, and processes to improve performance and efficiency.
  • Consults with design engineering leads, assesses internal or external requirements, and studies product characteristics to select simulation tools and approaches.
  • Partners and engages with internal and external collaborators, supplier management team, maintain relationships/partnerships with internal customers, peers and partners to develop strategies, goals and objectives that are consistent with the organization's overall strategy. The position is pivotal in creating and maintaining relationships with the company's cross functional teams supporting product development for production and working closely with those collaborators in problem solving, planning and forecasting activities of the team as well as reporting requirements from collaborators.
  • Forecasts resource needs and makes hiring decisions.
  • Coaches, counsels, mentors and provides developmental opportunities and job assignments to enhance team member performance and expand capabilities. Ensures employees are working effectively with all development teams.
  • Enforces company rules and policies regarding ethical behavior, safety, security, use of company property, time charging, etc.
  • Manages the team creating and executing simulations based on appropriate protocols, then analyzing data to determine whether components, systems and processes meet required criteria and specifications.
  • Works collaboratively with design, industrial and manufacturing engineering teams during the NPI process to ensure the highest quality products are delivered.
  • Identifies opportunities for collaboration and partnerships to enhance product development capabilities.
  • Interacts with suppliers and customers as required.
  • Comfortable with complex problem solving and rapidly changing priorities.
  • Comfortable in high pressure environments during rapid ramp up periods.
  • Stays abreast of industry trends, technological advancement, and regulatory changes to ensure the organization remains at the forefront of innovation.
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned.
