Caterpillar's Electrification & Energy Solutions (E+ES) Division will focus on delivering advanced electrified power train, zero-emissions products/technologies, and the solutions and services associated with these technologies. Focus areas include batteries, fuel cells, motors, inverters, micro grid controllers, charging, energy storage systems, lifecycle solutions/services and integration of components for ePowertrain solutions across industries.

Job Summary:

As NPI Team Lead, the candidate will manage multiple NPI programs supporting Resource Industries (RI), Construction Industries and E&T, from Program Launch to Gateway 7. The components in scope motors, generators, inverters, and power electronics modules (PEM).

What You Will Do:

  • Overseeing project progress and costs; communicating status with stakeholders and participating in functional areas; addressing and resolving problems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams of engineering, purchasing, manufacturing, business resources, and supply chain
  • Communicate effectively with all levels of the organization, including stakeholders, management, and business partners
  • Provide exceptional leadership to implement continuous improvement to the NPI process on the journey to defect-free products, including APQP and Sourcing Council approval process.
  • Influencing project staffing; motivating and developing project team and team members.
  • Communicating with customers and managing expectations; ensuring effective use of project controls and reporting mechanisms.

Degree Requirement
Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in Engineering or Engineering Management, or related technical field.

Skill Descriptors

Planning: Tactical, Strategic: Knowledge of effective planning techniques and ability to contribute to operational (short term), tactical (1-2 years) and strategic (3-5 years) planning in support of the overall business plan.
Level Extensive Experience:
  • Develops, refines, and communicates tactical plans for own responsibilities.
  • Provides the right level of detail as input for strategic plan development.
  • Demonstrates the value and necessity of linking tactical plans to overall strategic plan.
  • Ensures attention to the detail and dependencies of existing departmental-level plans.
  • Plans for allocation of resources in line with unit goals, technical and business objectives.
  • Ensures the planning process is integrated with the overall business plan.

Products and Services - Level Working Knowledge:
  • Obtains information about product and service linkages with other products and services elsewhere in organization.
  • Researches the target market and how the product and services are sold and delivered.
  • Explains current status, delivery alternatives and announced updates to products and services.
  • Summarizes key features of major products or services in own unit.
  • Assesses own unit's product alternatives, costs, and pricing.

Quality Management - Level Working Knowledge:
  • Utilizes quality indicators relevant to own unit or function.
  • Adheres to organizational quality management processes and practices.
  • Applies key aspects of continuous improvement processes and evaluates impact on quality.
  • Uses quality evaluation tools and techniques such as walkthroughs and inspections.
  • Works with quality assurance methods, tools and techniques.

Effective Communications - Level Expert:
  • Works to create a climate that values and rewards good oral and written communication.
  • Communicates effectively with diverse audiences, using appropriate media and language.
  • Monitors developments in communications tools for potential use by organization.
  • Writes reports, articles, or books for distribution to the business or professional community.
  • Ensures important messages are clearly understood.
  • Coaches others on methods of improving their own communications.

Problem Solving - Level Extensive Experience:
  • Ensures capture of lessons to be learned from a problem-solving effort.
  • Organizes potential problem solvers and leads problem resolution efforts.
  • Uses varying problem-solving approaches and techniques as appropriate.
  • Contributes to standard practices for problem-solving approaches, tools, and processes.
  • Analyzes and synthesizes information and devises alternative resolution strategies.
  • Develops successful resolutions to critical or wide-impact problems.

Customer Service Management - Level Extensive Experience:
  • Communicates with clients on quality-of-service measurements.
  • Ensures teams maintain focus on value-added services.
  • Conducts and acts on reviews of open service requests.
  • Identifies and resolves gaps in customer expectations versus actual service levels.
  • Negotiates the terms of deliverables, service level agreements, and expectations.
  • Verifies client satisfaction and keeps customers informed.

Program Management- Level Extensive Experience:
  • Evaluates risks and vulnerabilities and creates contingency plans.
  • Advises others on preferred tools, techniques and methods for estimating program cost and time.
  • Conducts regular and ad-hoc program reviews with project managers, team and clients.
  • Coaches others in maintaining open communication among project managers and interested parties.
  • Oversees reporting requirements and creates monitoring and control mechanisms.
  • Plans, estimates, staffs, organizes and monitors a set of projects within a program.

Design for Manufacturability (DFM) - Level Working Knowledge:
  • Analyzes the implementation challenges of DFM methodologies and shares them with their supervisors.
  • Documents each stage of the design process for audit and review purposes.
  • Follows standard guidelines and best practices while carrying out DFM procedures.
  • Implements DFM methodologies to standardize product designs, simplify operations, and reduce costs for certain types of manufacturing processes.
  • Utilizes basic DFM tools and technologies to implement DFM methodologies.

Top Candidates Will Also Have:

  • Experience in direct or indirect team leadership
  • Experience in product design and development, either at the component or prime product level
  • Previous experience in NPI programs, processes, and tools including APQP
  • Cross functional experience in purchasing, manufacturing, or supply chain
  • Contract manufacturing and supplier engagement experience
  • Previous electrical / electronics or drivetrain experience
  • Must possess strong collaborative and interpersonal skills
  • MBA or Engineering Masters Degree (or equivalent)
  • Strong business acumen

Additional Information:

  • This position will sit from Mossville, IL in a hybrid flexible role (3 days in office, 2 days work from home).
  • This position is likely to require up to 10% travel.
