Department Information

The Office of Institutional Effectiveness (OIE) is a one-stop resource for data, research, and the assessment process at IU Southeast. We provide raw data, summaries, and reports about IU Southeast to members of our campus community.

The data available through OIE is used as the basis for planning and decision-making by our administration, faculty, and staff.

IU Southeast data is also available for student use for class projects, papers, and articles. Check out our reports and tools available through our site links or submit a data request, and we will work with you to meet your needs.

OIE is also primarily responsible for guiding the institutional, general education, and academic program assessment on campus.

Job Summary

This position requires extensive use of various computer programs to aggregate and report University Data, and provides essential support to our Assessment Specialist. The job will include the use of other software programs for which training will be provided including Qualtrics and an assessment management system.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • sort, filter, build pivot tables, build charts & graphs, use headers & footers, understand and utilize Database functions (DCount, DSum, DAverage, etc.), understand and utilize Excel functions (Count, Counta, Countif, If, Sum, Average, StDev, Min, Max, Vlookup.)
  • learn more advanced Excel formulas with the assistance of OIE staff training
  • Track all assessment activities.
  • Verify and correct assessment data.
  • Update and/or develop assessment forms and surveys.
  • Assist with the distribution of assessment forms.
  • Develop report templates as needed.
  • Download, clean, reorganize, manipulate, and format data.
  • Recognize and resolve inconsistencies in data.
  • Summarize ad hoc data primarily using Excel pivot tables and produce professional, formatted reports.
  • Load survey and assessment data into dashboards for campus self-service.
  • Data validation and rechecking one¿s own work.
  • Import and Export data across applications (.csv to .xls), copying and pasting across applications (.xls to .doc)
  • Basic use of Adobe Acrobat DC.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Required

Bachelor's Degree (Associate Degree with commensurate experience considered).

EXPERIENCE

Required
  • MS Excel Database functions (intermediate to advanced level Excel user)
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word and Excel)
Preferred
  • 6 months of experience in data analysis, reporting, and/or support of research/assessment activities or related tasks.
  • Higher Education experience.
  • Experience with data reporting and/or survey research
SKILLS

Required
  • Attention to detail and ability to be accurate
  • Comfort with repetitive tasks.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Ability to learn new software through self-direction (reading manuals, help topics and learn by doing).
  • Ability to work effectively with a team, organize and plan workload, independent project completion.
  • Proficiency with standard office equipment and procedures.
  • Demonstrated orientation toward quality service.
Preferred
  • Experience working with large sets of data records.
  • Experience with Power BI or Tableau.
  • Software experience in Qualtrics (or another survey platform) and/or an Assessment Management System.

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as the ability to move object weighing up to 10 pounds. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

This is an in-person position, eligible for remote work, subject to change in the future based on university policy and business needs.

Advertised Salary

$17 - $18 per hour

Work Hours

The working hours for this position are flexible but can total no more than 29 hours per week.

The work is a bit cyclical, meaning heavier hours from June through October (about 22 weeks), and less hours the remaining weeks of the year.
