Job Summary

Responsible for providing protection and service to all students, faculty, staff, and the general public at all college campuses and locations; enforce college policies and procedures as well as maintain law and order.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for providing protection and service to all students, faculty, staff, and public at all college campuses and locations to include providing security at sporting and special events and securing the safe delivery of bank deposits. Provide assistance to disabled students. Deliver emergency messages.
  • Maintain law and order by constant patrol, surveillance, crime prevention, and enforcement of all applicable laws of the city, county, state, and federal governments. Patrol assigned college campuses and locations by motor vehicle, foot patrol, or other means available. Enforce parking and traffic regulations as well as direct the flow of traffic to ease congestion when required.
  • Respond to calls to assist students, faculty, staff, and the public with request for service, and civil/criminal complaints. Open and secure facilities; set alarm and security surveillance systems; monitor campus facilities via security surveillance systems, and inspect premises for indications of criminal activity.
  • Conduct preliminary investigations, obtain information, document and file initial reports, witness statements, affidavits, and supplemental reports; identify and make proper arrest of offender(s) when required; transport prisoners to detention centers/stations for processing and booking; and testify in court when summoned.
  • Respond to and investigate traffic accidents, provide first aid as needed, survey accident scene, inspect and record physical damage of vehicles and property; clear scene and submit appropriate documents/reports.
  • Provide first aid during medical emergencies; coordinate with EMS and Fire Department for transporting of persons to local hospitals when medical situations requires it; provide evacuation assistance and directions in emergency situations.
  • Participate in daily briefings & departmental training. May assist in the training of new officers in the field according to established schedules and guidelines secure information from a variety of sources for further review or discussion.

Marginal Functions:
  • The position may perform other duties commensurate with the functions and level of the position to include participating in committee assignments and the recruitment and retention of students.
Qualifications


Police Officer II Qualifications*: EDUCATION: Completion of High School, Police Academy and related Field TrainingEXPERIENCE: Two (2) years directly related experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Be at least 21 years of age.
  • Good physical condition
  • Normal hearing.
  • Eyesight correctable to 20/30.
  • No felony convictions.
  • Possession of a valid Arizona State Drivers License and good driving record.
  • Able to pass an extensive background check.
  • Ability to pass a complete physical exam.
  • Ability to pass a Polygraph examination successfully.
  • Ability to pass a Psychological examination successfully.
  • Ability to pass an Oral Board examination and/or situational interview.
  • Ability to successfully complete the Field Officer Training.
  • Any combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and law enforcement techniques equivalent to training at an Arizona POST certified law enforcement training academy.
  • Applicants must possess an Arizona POST Peace Officer Certificate; individuals who are inactive must be eligible to be reinstated and must complete the Arizona POST reinstatement process.
  • Applicants who do not possess an Arizona POST active or inactive Peace Officer Certificate must complete the Arizona POST Waiver examination process.
  • Citizen of the United States.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Knowledge of Arizona State Statutes, Federal laws and College Policies and Procedures as it relates to area of assignment.
  • Knowledge of law enforcement practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of first aid/life saving techniques (e.g. CPR).
  • Knowledge of the 10-code system of communication and the operations of a two-way radio, patrol car and emergency equipment.
  • Knowledge of equipment and weapons used in the course of law enforcement.
  • Knowledge of English usage, grammar and basic report preparation.
  • Knowledge of crime investigation methods, procedures and practices.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of providing training on a variety of topics.
  • Skill in remaining calm in tense situations, analyzing problems quickly, deescalating the situation and taking the appropriate actions to solve or resolve situations at the lowest possible level of force while providing security and protection.
  • Skill in communicating effectively and dispatch, staff, students and the public.
  • Skill in the effective operation and maintenance of various weapons and equipment used in law enforcement.
  • Skill in providing assistance to the College community on a variety of levels.
  • Skill in administering first aid/life saving techniques. Skill in managing situations firmly, courteously, tactfully and impartially.
  • Skill in investigating a variety of situations and crimes and in preparing the proper paperwork for documentation.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is regularly exposed to motorized vehicles. The noise level for work environment ranges from moderate to loud. Employee may be exposed to a situation that could result in personal injury.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The position requires a variety of physical activities: Occasional periods of sitting, climbing, balancing, stopping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Regularly required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, talk, and/or hear. Exert physical strength in the restraint of individuals. May experience a combative interaction with an individual.
