Department Information

The School of Natural Sciences offers 7 degree programs in fields like biology, computer science and chemistry, in addition to a variety of certifications in allied health. Graduates of the School of Natural Sciences go on to work, teach and contribute important research to their fields of study.

Job Summary

  • Responsible for performing administrative and clerical work and a variety of non-routine tasks related to the maintenance of student academic records.
  • Collects data from program coordinators to create and edit the schedule of classes as needed; creates independent study sections.
  • Coordinates data collection and records processing activities.
  • Reviews requests for updates to student records and resolves discrepancies or problems; updates student records regarding grade changes, incompletes, withdrawals, drop and add, etc.
  • Serves as resource person to students, faculty, school recorders and staff, campus registrars, and others involved with student academic record keeping; responds to inquiries regarding
    academic records, generating reports as needed. Reviews records for accuracy.
  • Reviews, classifies according to type, and processes certification requests. Responds to inquiries from students regarding status or degree requirements.
  • Updates and analyzes degree records from transfer reports; codes and enters data; maintains files and data bases; updates and purges as necessary to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Enters student permissions for classes requiring permission.
  • Contacts students for retention initiatives.
  • Answers phone and greets people in the main office when other staff are out.
  • Monitors course enrollments and makes adjustments to enrollment limits; lets students in from waitlist.
  • Receives and digitally files course evaluations for part-time instructors.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED)
WORK EXPERIENCE

Preferred
  • Experience in customer service, higher education, or related field

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
