Job Description Summary
The Pulmonary Vascular Disease Program is seeking a Project Manager for a NIH-funded multi-year, ten center study of pulmonary hypertension. The candidate will oversee the Clinical Coordinating Center and be directly involved with strategic planning and policy development related to the goals of the project and is responsible for ensuring that the objectives are achieved. He/she will oversee all start-up activities including development of study documents (protocol, informed consent, CRFs), single IRB approval, meeting materials, and presentations as well as design and maintain the study's manual of procedures.
Job Description
The Project Manager will develop relationships with internal and external project partners; consult with and provide guidance to twelve external research teams (including the Data Coordinating Center and the external laboratory core). He/she will be responsible for quality assurance and quality control, including training at sites (remote and/or on-site), ongoing monitoring of data, maintenance of staff certification at sites, and adherence to procedures. The individual will partner with the external Data Coordinating Center as well as the faculty investigators at recruiting sites throughout the United States. The candidate will oversee abstract and manuscript processes in collaboration with the Principal Investigator.
Responsibilities also include serving as a liaison between the PI and the rest of the team (including the Steering Committee, other investigators, study staff, consultants, the IRB, and the NIH), managing and monitoring operations and timelines, and working with the PI and grants manager to manage the grant budget.
A high level of independence, attention to detail, familiarity with epidemiological study design and performance, and strong communication skills are expected.
Duties:
Create and implement strategic plan for the successful initiation and completion of the project. Plan for, but not limited to, meeting enrollment targets, staff education at external participating institutions (recruiting centers), and coordinating specimen collection, shipping, and analysis at collaborating labs
Coordinate the operation of the external participating institutions (Recruiting Centers), and oversee the operation of participating external laboratory core. Responsible for maintaining communication with the Recruiting Centers and Cores to identify issues, implement changes, and provide required information. Maintain communication with the NIH and provide detailed responses to requests.
Will work closely with Data Coordinating Center at University of Washington to: maintain or identify changes to the database structure and case report forms, develop and review study reports, troubleshoot procedures, and track enrollment at least bi-weekly (or more often if required). Responsible for on-site or remote monitoring all 10 sites which includes subject visits and regulatory documentation.
Responsible for quality assurance and quality control, including but not limited to, training at sites, ongoing monitoring of data, maintenance of staff certification at sites, and adherence to procedures
Review and submit all necessary regulatory documentation to the Institutional Review Board and Office of Research Services including, but not limited to, Data and Material Use Agreements, initial submissions for single IRB, continuing reviews, amendments, deviations, and reportable events.
Oversee financial and grant management, including research budgets, grant reporting and monitoring in conjunction with PVD Program Director and Grants Administrator to ensure effective utilization of materials, staff and financial resources. Assist in the development of budgets and other documentation for subcontracts pertaining to this project.
Monitor, summarize, and report research progress to Investigators, sponsors and team members. Responsible for working directly with principal investigator to complete NIH-required progress reports.
Convene committees to discuss progress and strategic goals, set priorities, and report key programmatic and financial metrics. Plan Steering Committee meetings and events co-sponsored by grant funding source (workshops, symposia). Develop agendas, presentations, and materials for meetings and events in collaboration with development and the Faculty Director
Perform additional duties as assigned
Research Project Manager B:
All of the above duties will be performed with minimal supervision and require very limited training.
Research Project Manager C:
All of the duties listed above plus the following: With oversight from the Principal Investigator, the Project Manager will take a leadership role in maintaining the well-established program's research strategy and support junior faculty members in their research endeavors. He/she will assist with other research projects in the Pulmonary Vascular Disease Program. He/she will assist with developing and submitting grant proposals to the NIH and other funders and lead subprojects, as needed.
Qualifications
Research Project Manager A - Bachelor's Degree (Master's Degree preferred) and 3-5 years of clinical research experience
Research Project Manager B - Master's Degree and 3-5 years of clinical research experience
Research Project Manager C - Master's Degree and 5-7 years of clinical research experience
Experience with clinical research and managing large multicenter epidemiologic research studies preferred.
Previous experience drafting protocols, consents and related SOPs.
Effective problem solving abilities, communication and writing skills required.
Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and multi-level tasks required.
Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team as well as independently.
Applicant must be able to appropriately prioritize, manage time effectively and exercise mature judgment.
Knowledge of IRB and human research protection regulations essential. Position contingent upon funding.
