Summary

This position is responsible for supervising the daily operations of the Tulane University (TU) Radiation Safety Program. The Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) has authority to approve new radioactive material or radiation-producing device users and protocols, stop work when there is an imminent health or safety hazard, and interface with regulators, Tulane University administration and principal investigators. The RSO is responsible for maintaining the Tulane Broadscope Radioactive Material License and the Tulane Radiation Safety Program. In addition, the RSO is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining a compliant Laser Safety Program that incorporates best practices and protective measures. In addition, the RSO will supervise the Assistant RSO. This position is considered essential for certain campus emergencies and is expected to remain in campus allocated locations when called upon to do so.

Required Qualifications

* Master's Degree in Health Physics from an accredited educational institution with 6-10 years of experience developing and executing a Radiation Safety Program. OR* Bachelor's Degree in Health Physics from an accredited Educational Institution with 11-15 years of experience developing and executing a Radiation Safety Program.* Must have experience with Laser Safety and Laser Safety Programs.* Must have a valid and unrestricted (not including corrective lens needs) U.S. Drivers license and must meet the Tulane University Motor Vehicle policy criteria to become authorized as a driver.

Preferred Qualifications


* Master's Degree from an accredited institution in the field of Health Physics, Physics, Nuclear Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Chemistry.* Certified by a recognized board in health physics, medical physics or nuclear medicine.* Five years environmental, health, and safety experience.* Three years radiation safety program experience.* Two years university experience.* Two years supervisory experience.* Practical knowledge of general research lab applications.* Certified Health Physicist preferred.* Certified Laser Safety Officer preferred.
