The D'Angelo Law Library at the University of Chicago seeks a collaborative, forward thinking professional for the Repository and Scholarly Services Librarian position. Reporting to the Associate Director for User Services at the D'Angelo Law Library, the Repository and Scholarly Services Librarian develops, implements, and delivers strategies to support the scholarship at the University of Chicago Law School and maximizes the discoverability and scholarly impact of the Law School's prolific faculty.

The Repository and Scholarly Services Librarian has primary responsibility for D'Angelo's administration of the Law School's institutional repository, Chicago Unbound. In that role, the Repository and Scholarly Services Librarian monitors the scholarship produced by the Law School's faculty, convenes, and leads D'Angelo's Chicago Unbound Working Group, and coordinates with Library and Law School colleagues to develop and maintain the repository. The Repository and Scholarly Services Librarian also oversees the Library's discovery and curation of scholarship in the faculty citation database and uses content from the repository and the citations database to generate reports for Law School stakeholders and to maintain faculty publication lists on the Law School website.

The Repository and Scholarly Services Librarian serves as a member of the D'Angelo reference team and provides superior in-person and virtual reference assistance. Such assistance includes providing training, as well as creating and maintaining research guides and other resources for researchers. The Repository and Scholarly Services Librarian also supports faculty research through ongoing collaboration with the Law School's academic research centers, including the Coase-Sandor Institute of Law and Economics, and the University Library, including the Center for Digital Scholarship.

The Repository and Scholarly Services Librarian participates in Law School, Library-wide, campus, and law library community discussions and collaborations on scholarship and research support to monitor and communicate issues in scholarly services for law researchers. The Repository and Scholarly Services Librarian develops and maintains their knowledge in areas related to scholarly services at law schools and for legal scholarship, including open access to legal information and research data curation, management, and preservation.

The D'Angelo Law Library contributes to the academic and scholarly success of the University of Chicago and Law School communities by providing rich collections and resources, maintaining a premier scholarly environment, and delivering superior library services. D'Angelo's collections are among the world's finest for law research and enable comprehensive access to legal scholarship and interdisciplinary resources. D'Angelo occupies five floors in the central tower of the Law School's Laird Bell Quadrangle and is a valued partner in the Law School's community of scholarship, teaching, and learning. The D'Angelo Law Library is part of the University of Chicago Library system, working cooperatively with other campus libraries to ensure rapid access to print and digital collections, research and study spaces, and expansive services. D'Angelo team members foster and maintain a collaborative, inclusive, and supportive workplace culture to provide the highest level of service to the prolific and evolving University of Chicago Law School and University communities.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school (degree must be completed by start date of employment).
  • A graduate degree from an ALA-accredited library school (degree must be completed by start date of employment).
  • Knowledge of law sources and databases as evidenced by relevant course work, work experience, or other related experience.
  • Experience using digital legal research tools, techniques, and strategies, including the subscription services Westlaw, Lexis, Bloomberg Law, and other law databases.
  • Knowledge of current and emerging trends in legal scholarship and law publications as evidenced by relevant course work, work experience, or other related experience.
  • Awareness of current issues and trends regarding scholarly communications, institutional repositories, and rights management.

Preferred:
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and planning skills; demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with faculty, students, and staff about data and/or technical matters.
  • Evidence of initiative, a strong user service philosophy, the ability to maintain good relationships with colleagues and work in teams, and a commitment to continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Previous experience working in an academic law library.
  • Knowledge of data research tools, statistical analysis software, and empirical research methodologies in law or social science disciplines.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with faculty, students, and staff about data and technical matters.
  • Teaching or training experience.
  • Knowledge of computer programming languages and experience writing computer code and scripts
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in project management.
  • Knowledge of one or more non-English languages
