Sr. Analyst, Financial Planning and Analysis - Restaurant Cost of Goods

CAVA is seeking an enthusiastic and Sr. Analyst, Financial Planning and Analysis - Restaurant Cost of Goods, a role critical to our dynamic and evolving financial landscape. In this position, you'll be at the heart of our financial operations, working collaboratively with the Accounting, Finance, and Operations teams to drive strategic financial planning, analysis, and reporting. You'll play a pivotal role in overseeing our budgeting processes, financial forecasting, and investment planning, ensuring we make data-driven decisions for our thriving enterprise. The ideal candidate will bring a blend of technical expertise, strong analytical skills, and excellent communication abilities, thriving in a fast-paced environment that offers exposure to a diverse array of financial disciplines.

What You'll Do:

  • Act as a key finance business partner, working closely with Operations and Supply Chain on budgeting, actuals, ROI analysis, and financial partnerships.
  • Responsible for analyzing COGS performance across all restaurant locations, identifying trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement
  • Develop and maintain detailed item level COGS forecasts and budgets, ensuring alignment with company objectives and providing timely updates on projections.
  • Partner with Culinary and Marketing teams to evaluate the financial impact of menu changes and product launches, focusing on ingredient cost, portioning, and margin enhancement.
  • Calculate the potential impact of new menu items by developing theoretical COGS models, incorporating ingredient costs, preparation time, and anticipated sales volumes.
  • Conduct sensitivity analyses to understand how changes in pricing, ingredient costs, or sales mix may affect overall profitability.
  • Collaborate with Supply Chain to analyze vendor pricing, negotiate cost savings, and assess the financial impact of changes in supplier contracts or commodity prices.
  • Identify opportunities to improve data accuracy and automate reporting.
  • Build scalable and actionable reporting using dashboarding tools such as Tableau and Power BI.
  • Conduct ad hoc research and analysis as needed for Finance and Restaurant Leadership.
  • Manage month-end close processes, ensuring all related expenses are captured accurately.
  • Provide strategic and annual financial planning, modeling, forecasting, reporting, and analysis of operating expenses to the organization.
  • Design and develop technical solutions with a future-proof approach, leveraging technology to address process and data challenges efficiently.
  • Abide by policies and procedures that support the service mindset

The Qualifications:

  • 2-4 years strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze large datasets and produce actionable insights.
  • Experience in financial modeling and forecasting techniques.
  • Advanced skills in Excel, including complex formulas, pivot tables, and data visualization.
  • Proficient in SQL
  • Familiarity with financial planning software (e.g., Hyperion, SAP, Oracle).
  • Strong skills in budgeting and forecasting specifically for revenue and labor planning.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret trends within expenses to inform strategic decision-making
  • Thorough understanding of accounting principles, including but not limited to prepaid expenses, accruals, and deferrals.
  • Expertise in conducting variance analysis between actual expenses and budgeted/forecasted figures.
  • Ability to provide insightful explanations for variances and recommend corrective actions. Experience in preparing detailed financial reports and presentations for senior management.
  • Capability to ensure that financial reporting is in compliance with accounting standards and company policies.
  • Skills in communicating financial concepts and implications to non-finance departments. Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy in work. Ability to adapt to changing business needs and environments, with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Openness to learning new tools and techniques in financial analysis and reporting. Ability to think strategically and contribute to long-term business planning and strategy.
  • Understanding of the industry trends and how they impact the financial planning and analysis functions.
Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to maintain stationary position to be able to operate a computer and other office equipment
  • Must be able to identify, analyze and assess details
  • For certain positions, must be able to occasionally move or transport items up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to communicate with others and exchange information accurately and effectively
  • Constantly positions self and move about to support ordinary restaurant or food production support or office operations, as applicable
  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner
