Job Summary

This position reports to the Laboratory Supervisor. Under direction is responsible for the routine and intermediate clinical testing procedures performed on a daily basis in the laboratory. Conducts advanced level testing when indicated by preliminary test results. May provide immediate supervision to technical personnel; assists with administrative duties. Teaches, assigns work to, monitors performance and recommends action when appropriate. In the absence of the Laboratory Supervisor assumes responsibility for all technical, quality control and administrative aspects of the laboratory. Performs technologist duties approximately 80-90% of the time or as required
All duties of MT I and MT II and:
as requested and in accordance with Lab policy/procedure; assist lab leadership with
orientation and competency assessment & training new hires
lab policy and procedure updates
new test/technology/LIS validations and upgrades
shift assignments and/or staffing schedules
verify payroll information to be submitted to the timekeeper
implementation of changes to meet regulatory compliance
report all issues and QC failures to supervisor, as appropriate
provide input for performance evaluations for staff
address all service complaints from customers, patients, medical and lab staff; work with lab leadership to formulate appropriate response
performs bench testing 80 - 90% of time
expectations when in charge of shift(s)
if regularly assigned charge duties, may supervise shift(s) 10% of total work time
investigate and document disciplinary issues, in conjunction with/directed by lab leadership
investigate and document events for safety reports in conjunction with/directed by lab leadership
Qualifications
- BS or BA in Science from an accredited college required - ASCP Certification Required - Bachelors Degree in Medical Technology preferred and - Significant or specialized experience; 5 years
