Duties: 1. Provide clinical and surgical care to a wide variety of research animals to include swine, sheep nonhuman primates, and rodents. Responsibilities include oversight of colony health management, protocol review and consultation with researchers on animal models, investigator technical support, training and educational programs for animal care and research staff
2. Provide anesthesia and post-operative support to large animal species requiring significant critical care management
3. Provide didactic and hands on training to veterinary residents, veterinary students and externs
4. Ability to work in teams
5. Provide routine clinical and emergency care to laboratory animals
6. Non-human primate colony health management
7. Dog colony health management
8. Small ruminant health colony management
9. Swine colony health management
10. Rodent colony health management
11. Staff & investigator training
12. Consult with researchers on animal research
13. Assure regulatory compliance
14. One-on-one training and supervision of residents in the provision of clinical care to research animals
Qualifications: Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine
Licensed to practice veterinary medicine in at least one state
ACLAM board eligibility preferred
Experience with investigational animal models and in animal research
Experience working with surgical models requiring intensive anesthesia support preferred
Experience working with swine and NHP preferred
Excellent clinical veterinary skills
Excellent oral and written skills
Demonstrated ability to train research personnel
Able to balance multiple priorities
Recognize importance of confidential information
Willing and eligible to obtain USDA accreditation and DEA registration
