Summary

The successful candidate will report directly to the Manager of BioClinical Statistics in the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs. The individual will provide statistical support to assist faculty and residents in the design, analysis, interpretation, and reporting of biomedical and clinical research throughout Midwestern University (MWU). The individual will be involved in consultation with medical researchers, supporting resident research through analysis support, and experience supportive management that encourages professional development. This position is eligible for two days work-from-home after successful onboarding.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides statistical support and consulting to assist faculty and residents in study design and data analysis for biomedical and clinical research within all colleges of Midwestern University (MWU).
  • Effectively communicate via oral and written methods the interpretation of statistical analysis results for faculty and residents as part of the consulting process with the assistance of the Manager of BioClinical Statistics.
  • Prepares and reviews internal statistical reports including summary statistics, graphics, tabulations, and statistical analyses for clinical research studies as well as preparing results for external presentations and publications using a reproducible workflow.
  • Provides input into the design, preparation and review of clinical protocols and research projects for faculty and residents by providing information for analysis plans, statistical sampling plans, and data-driven insight and recommendations for use in decision making for research designs.
  • Performs power analyses for faculty and residents justifying the sample size for Institutional Review Board and Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee applications.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Manager of BioClinical Statistics.

Education and/or Experience                                             

Required:

  • Master’s degree in statistics, biostatistics, or a related field
  • Experience with basic statistical inference methods, multivariable regression modeling, and longitudinal analysis for biomedical and clinical research data
  • Experience in statistical programming and data cleaning in R, SAS, and/or SPSS programming language
  • Demonstrates clear and concise verbal communication skills for interacting with co-workers, faculty researchers, and residents
  • Excellent writing skills to prepare statistical reports and summaries
  • Desire and willingness to learn and develop new skills

Desired:

  • At least 1 year of relevant work experience in biostatistics
  • Experience in coding using a reproducible workflow (ex. R Markdown documents)
  • Ability to clearly communicate biostatistics principles and procedures to novice researchers
  • Prior experience in academic healthcare statistical consulting

Computer Skills                                           

Computer proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), expertise in R, SAS, or SPSS programming languages for data cleaning, statistical inference, and figure creation.

Language Skills                                            

High skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information to top management and board of directors.

Reasoning Ability

High skills: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Mathematical Ability

High skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
