Job Description:


***This position is eligible for up to two days remote work per week.


BASIC FUNCTION:


The Systems Administrator I is primarily responsible for the administration and maintenance of systems and network services (hardware and software) at Salve Regina University. In addition to supporting the existing network infrastructure and systems, the Systems Administrator I, will take a supporting role in the implementation of all new network-based systems.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Assist with identity management processes in Microsoft Active Directory, Microsoft Azure Active Directory, and Office 365, including account provisioning, group and mailbox creation, permissions and access assignments, and account cleanup and retirement.
  • Assist with the support, maintenance, security, and patching of VMware ESXi/vSphere and Microsoft Windows server environments
  • Assist with the install, configure, and deploy virtual machines and physical servers and other associated data center equipment.
  • Assist with configuration, management, provisioning, and maintenance of file servers, storage area networks, and direct attached storage. Ensure proper backup of all data stored on these systems.
  • Assist with developing and implementing backup strategies to ensure data integrity and availability in case of system failures, accidents, or disasters. This may involve regular backups, testing backup systems, and creating disaster recovery plans.
  • Provide technical support to end-users, troubleshooting hardware and software issues, assisting with system configurations, and resolving user problems or inquiries in a timely manner. This could be done through various channels such as TSC requests, email, phone, or in-person support.
  • Assist with ensuring that systems are up to date with the latest security patches, firmware updates, and software releases. This involves testing updates in a controlled environment before deploying them to production systems to minimize disruptions.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Assist the Technology Services Center as tier 3 support for software management and policy deployment, using tools such as Microsoft SCCM, Microsoft InTune, Jamf Pro, and Active Directory Group Policies.
  • Assist with the configuration, and implementation of network infrastructure equipment including switches, routers, firewall appliances, wireless controllers, and access points.
  • Execute firmware/software upgrades on network equipment.
  • Configure and maintain Windows DNS and Windows DHCP services, including hostname assignments and IP reservations.
  • Follow and implement current information security best practices in administrating all network equipment and services.
  • Collaborate with the Network Infrastructure, Administrative Systems, and Technology Services Center teams in addressing network-related problems and projects.
  • Submit requested network-related reports for status and future planning, as required.
  • Assist in recommendation and determination of workstation support procedures and secure software configuration regarding network access and utilization.
  • Assist with cybersecurity, compliance, business continuity/disaster recovery, mobile wireless (cell and carrier), and other duties of the department.
  • Perform other department related support activities as needed.

LICENSES, TOOL, AND EQUIPMENT:


  • Preferred Microsoft, Network+, VMware, and Cisco certifications.
  • Where possible, the incumbent will obtain hardware and software technical training to enhance his/her professional capability and capacity.
  • Valid driver's license is required.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:


The incumbent is not subject to adverse environmental conditions.



Requirements:


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


  • An Associates degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent working knowledge of network operation systems and configurations required.
  • At least two years of experience with Microsoft Windows Server 2012 or later and associated technologies, including Active Directory administration, in a dynamic and complex environment.
  • Network troubleshooting skills are essential.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office 365/Azure, VMware ESXi, Cisco Catalyst and Meraki network equipment, Veeam Backup, HPE Storage, and other current technologies a plus.
  • Knowledge in the use of Microsoft PowerShell for configuration and automation of server management, identity management, and maintenance.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:


  • A Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent working knowledge of network operation systems and configurations required.
  • More than two years of experience with Microsoft Windows Server 2012 or later and associated technologies, including Active Directory administration, in a dynamic and complex environment.
  • Preferred certifications include Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Certification (e.g., MCSA, MCSE), or other related certifications.
