Salary: $16.00 USD Hourly - $18.00 USD Hourly
Description: Our client is currently seeking a Tax Processing Specialist 1
This position is a remote, W2 contract.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

  • Prepare Clients' sales and use tax returns for the time-sensitive SUT compliance cycle. This includes:
    • Communicating frequently with Client contacts via phone and email.
    • Reviewing Client tax data for accuracy, investigating questionable data, and taking corrective action when necessary.
    • Managing Clients' soft and hard files.
    • Properly formatting and importing monthly tax data to our Indirect Tax Returns software.
    • Reviewing and reconciling SUT returns using established best practices.
    • Ensuring Client approval of returns and processing any requested revisions.
    • Collaborating with other staff to complete the submission of returns and payments.
    • Timely initiating electronic filings and payments.
    • Preparing and maintaining monthly client tax compliance reports.
    • Reviewing and addressing Clients' tax mail (forms, notices, and bulletins).
    • Tracking and responding to notices from taxing jurisdictions, ensuring proper documentation and timely resolution.
    • Preparing and submitting sales tax registrations on behalf of clients.
    • Reconciling bank activity for assigned clients.
    • Exercising significant and independent professional judgment to resolve basic tax reporting problems.
    • Providing filing and notice support for senior-level employees.
    • Accommodating additional hours as needed during the monthly peak processing period, which is between the 5th and the 20th of each month.
    • Supporting a returns volume expanding to approximately 400 returns per month within six months with simple client complexity.
    • Providing support to senior-level Tax Processing Specialists.
    • Working independently after six months.
    • Participating in projects and performing other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Fundamental knowledge of multi-state tax returns.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Word and Excel skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Customer-focused and results-oriented.
  • Self-starter able to work under tight monthly deadlines.
  • Strong diplomacy skills.
  • Effective time and priority management to meet all deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently on routine work, with more guidance on new projects or assignments.
  • Ability to build productive internal/external working relationships.
  • Sound judgment and problem-solving skills to resolve issues.
  • Good interpersonal skills and a team player.
Education and Training
  • Associate's degree in accounting, finance, or similar required.
