Job Description Summary
This position serves as lead person in the maintenance and repair of all vehicles owned or leased by the district, the Appleton campus grounds and snow removal process.

Job Description
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Plan, coordinate and assign activities for maintenance mechanic position.
• Maintain and repair district vehicles and all contractors' movable equipment (lawn and snow equipment); initiate and maintain inspection systems; schedule and perform preventive maintenance.
• Plan, coordinate, and assign activities for Appleton campus grounds crew (spring through fall). Plan, coordinate, and assign activities for Appleton campus snow removal team. Train new team members.
• Coordinate scheduling and recordkeeping for maintenance service and repair of district vehicles and equipment.
• Maintain FVTC fuel systems and fuel dispensing programs with appropriate departments. Update and enter data of users, vehicles, and security codes.
• Maintain Safety Data sheets and maintain annual safety inspections on vehicles.
• Develop job descriptions for summer grounds crew; interview and hire for summer grounds crew.
• Coordinate all consumable inventory (replacement parts, tools, and shop needs) related to vehicle maintenance and building and grounds equipment.
• Review vehicle equipment needs, prepare recommendations, collect bid specifications, and assist with budgeting process of major and minor equipment.
• Monitor snow conditions and participate in the decision-making process on any College closure. Maintain the safety of grounds and determine staffing needs dependent on conditions.
• Working with Horticulture faculty, identify and implement yearly work plan for Appleton campus, including tree trimming/removal, weed control, mowing, and removal/addition of grounds features. Work closely with Horticulture, Agriculture, Urban Forestry, and Natural Resources staff on various projects.
• Design and fabricate equipment on motor vehicles for special purposes (i.e., EMS and Fire Technology vehicles and snow removal equipment).
• Assist with procurement process for grounds care and snow removal services.

SECONDARY JOB FUNCTIONS

• Provides equipment and training to other departments that need equipment for classes (i.e., Agriculture students and Horticulture students).
• Secure vehicle and building and grounds equipment.
• Maintain and install outdoor furniture, fencing, and signage.
• Reconcile p-card transactions on a timely basis.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Administrative supervision is received from the Manager of the department.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

Functional supervision of maintenance mechanic, Appleton summer grounds crew, Appleton snow removal team, contractors and vendors.

QUALIFICATIONS, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE

• Associate Degree in related field, AND
• Four years maintenance work experience, OR
• An equivalent combination of related education, training and experience.
• Valid driver's license and Class A CDL license required.
• Subject to FVTC's Motor Vehicle Record Check.
• Forklift operator certification is required.
• ASE Certification is desired.

Additional Information

Pay Rate: $30.72 per hour.

Pay is based on a multitude of factors, including experience, qualifications, education, relevant certifications, internal equity, and market data. Note: Internal applicants' wage will be based upon the applicable compensation guidelines.
