Position Description
Employees in this classification travel as required providing a wide variety of patient care activities in a correctional facility. They function within their legal scope of practice and by the policies and procedures of the organization and practice setting. Work is performed under the direction of a registered nurse as part of a total correctional managed health care team in providing safe and competent care to patients

Compensation is commensurate upon the qualifications of the individual selected and budgetary guidelines of the hiring department, as well as the institutional pay plan.
Major/Essential Functions
- Reports data, identifies and reports alterations in patient responses to assist in the identification of problems and formulation of goals/ outcomes.
- Prepares and operates necessary equipment and instruments for examinations, treatments and procedures.
- Administer or assist with the administration and documentation of medications.
- Assists with and performs focal assessments and procedures documenting the assessments and interventions in the electronic medical record.
- Maintains working knowledge of current issues and treatment modalities. Maintains working knowledge regarding the storage, usage, safety, and administration of medications via Direct Observation Therapy (DOT) and Pill Window.
- Triage sick call requests from patients.
- Completes and documents on incoming chain reviews/patient intakes.
- Makes daily patient rounds.
- Sharps (working and bulk) are maintained and counted per policy
- This position will be required to travel to multiple units and work various schedules depending on staffing needs.

Preferred Qualifications
- 5 years of experience as a licensed vocational nurse
- Prior experience in an Acute Care (Med/Surg, ICU, ER) setting
- Prior experience working effectively with members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team

Required QualificationsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Current Vocational Nurse License in the State of Texas, or ability to transfer license to Texas.
